Grief Howling

A shared mourning tradition to yell in grief.

Grief howling is a mourning tradition practised by many cultures across the continent of Anvil. After burial or burning practises, the mourners all travel together to the nearest (and most accessible) high point in the area and wait for the sun to set.   As the sun approaches the horizon and reaches eye-level, the group takes the opportunity to scream and howl in grief together, encouraging each other to bawl from the depths of their lungs to expel their loss.   The screaming stops as the sun sets, which marks the closing chapter of the deceased's life in Melior. The mourning group descend together and share warming drinks and fond memories into the night.
