Taeron Valcoran
Kemal Omizu
Head of Family
Taeron Valcoran, known as The Shadow Rider, is the son of Baeran Valcoran and Daenaera Valcoran, the eldest of six children he was forged to lead his family. He ascended to that seat at the age of 25 and is famous for his impulsive and sometimes erratic behaviour. He is the rider of Curose, The Shadow which is said to be the largest dragon in the world.
Appearance and Character
Young Taeron was handsome, being clean-shaven with long hair. Tall and athletic but not overly muscled, a warrior, thinker and lover. Taeron was self-confident and charismatic but was prone to mood swings that severely affected his judgment. He is also known to sing and play the harp.
Taeron is considered great by some but mad by others. He was idolised by his brothers, but sisters were often at odds with him. Causing no end of frustration and friction for the parents.
Taeron can also be described as hedonistic. He takes pleasures where he likes and has little to no respect for convention or propriety. He believes he is a god, a dragon made flesh and as such laws and rules do not apply to him.
History
Early years
Taeron was born in 4811 AD as the firstborn son and heir of Baeran Valcoran and Daenaera Valcoran. He has two younger brothers, Aelarys and Aerax, and three younger sisters, Aelora, Saenna, and Elaenya.
As a boy he was trained hard by his father. Imposing his will on the young man and making sure he was both a fighter and thinker. Taeron rebelled of course as he had a want to but inevitably he did as asked. At 14 he bonded with the young Curose and as his confidence and arrogance grew almost as quickly as the dragon. Hours and days were spent on the dragon’s back till they were as one.
At 18 he took his sisters Aelora and Saenna to wife in the one ceremony. Mostly at the pressure from his mother, for neither sister seemed to be too enamored with the idea. They both did their duty to the family. Aelora particularly fought with Taeron most and they had what could be described as a hate, hate relationship.
Within two years each was pregnant and they gave birth within hours of each other. Many say they all fornicated together but that is only said where he cannot hear. In 4831 AD two daughters were born within hours of each other to the sister wives. This started a spiral of competition between them.
Rise of the Valcorans
In 4832 AD word came from Zamettar of raids upon a large number of slave ships that were burned after the slaves aboard were taken by a pirate fleet. The Council of Freemen sent three dragonlords to deal with this threat. Venys Calareon and his brother Corryx on their dragons Morise and Terrilyx, plus the youngest of the three, Taeron Valcoran on the young but massive Curose. The pirate fleet was found on the Sothoryos coast trying to land the captured slaves. Vanys ordered Taeron to scorch the fleet first. The shadow of Curose was said to have blacked out the sun as his fires burned a hundred ships. It was then that treachery struck and the Calareon brothers attacked Taeron. A short but terrifying battle raged in the skies over Sothoryos. But both the dragons and riders of the Calareon family were torn apart by the much larger Curose. After escorting the remaining ships back to Zamettar, Taeron and Curose returned to Valyria and told their account of what had transpired. There was much doubt and argument in the council chamber over the validity of this story told by the young Valcoran. But reason, testimony, fear and the fact that Curose was now undoubtedly the largest dragon in the world tipped the scales and Taeron was hailed a hero. Curose was henceforth known as "The Shadow ''. The Valcoran family ascended above the other families in power, much to the chagrin of the Calareon family and the sting of losing two dragons has not yet subsided. Taeron himself was left scarred on his face and burned by the attack of the Calareons.
When his father died in 4836 AD, the young Lord took his place at the head of the family. Taeron kept his uncles as Archons of Oros and Tyria thus maintaining the stability within the family. The warring between himself and his sisters had subsided and as they controlled the family they became closer. They were the foil to the mood swings and rages of Taeron. Pushing him towards pleasures of the flesh rather than the pressures of running a family.
Mhysa Faer was the northernmost outpost of the Valcoran family. It was a jewel of a city with pink stone walls and lush gardens. In their hubris the Valcorans chose to not have a permanent dragon lord archon rule the city. They thought themselves untouchable so left the city in the charge of their clients in this venture. A noble from the Vibius family to oversee and run the city whilst still taking their lion's share of the profits. What they arrogantly ignored was the proximity of the city to the Dothraki and the threat that they would pose. In 4837 AD that came to a cataclysmic pinnacle when a khalasar destroyed the city. Those not taken captive were put to the sword. Including the mage but first he managed to send a message to the Inaugrion.
Taeron was summoned by the Arch mage and told of this destruction. In a rage he took to the air with five dragons. His wives and brothers flew with him. The khalasar left an easy trail to follow and the dragons decimated the khalasar. The Dothraki sea was ablaze and was seen for hundreds of miles.
Later Years
As the years progressed Taeron became less and less interested in politicking and more into the pleasures. Be it bedding women, fighting in the pits or spending hours riding Curose. Aelora and Saenna were essentially running the day to day business. That was until they decided to propose him for Archon. Winning the vote he assumed one of the three seats and suddenly he was interested. Much to the dismay of the wives. Now could they put the bitterness between them over succession aside to try and control the uncontrollable Taeron.
