Harbinger Species in Strange & Grim - OLD | World Anvil

Harbinger

The most recent of designated species on Baennor are referred to as the Harbingers. Within just the last two decades, these creatures have emerged from what were once thought to be normal people. Daonni have devolved into people who exclusively present their primordial air or water dominance, while dwearh have similarly separated into their earth or fire components.    Most across the Commonwealth fear these individuals and, more specifically, fear becoming one themselves. No one, not even scientists who have been studying them for years, truly understands what has happened to bring about these changes in people. However, there are several theories.   The most likely and dominant hypotheses today suggests that the influence and, thus, magical connection the Elemental Planes held over the Prime is beginning to dissolve due to the presence of the Void and the fact that it shields Baennor from the other Inner and Outer planes.    If this hypothesis proves true, it could have serious ramifications across the Commonwealth and all of Baennor. Does the protection of the Prime override the potential safety of its inhabitants?
