Lord Raywhen #25

A human visiting an Evolu encampment is one thing, but two Kutollum? It takes more than an hour, with the insistence of Dagan—who boldly declares his royal lineage to the Evolu guards, before you are able to meet with Lord Raywhen.   His quarters are elegant and he is a kind host. You are seated comfortably in plush chair with delicate cushions, which seems to make your companions uncomfortable. Raywhen listens to your story in full. There is little expression in his demeanor, but he politely waits until you are finished.   “And this is all?” he says calmly.   “All?” you repeat, confused. “Didn’t you understand, my lord, what I just said?”   “In full.”   “Toma’s going to frame my father!” snaps Dagan, shifting uncomfortably in his seat, but controlled.   “Regrettable,” Raywhen’s tone is cool, “but certainly none of my doing…or concern.”   You’re shocked at the unemotional response. I thought Evolu were civilized, loving people? “You did hear me, that Toma and his accomplices were targeting your own son?”   Raywhen pours himself a glass of wine from a delicate-looking crystal decantor, then lifts the fluted glass to his lips. “Which will be removed from harm, thanks to you.”   His lack of emotion is starting to tick you off. “Lord Raywhen, what’s to stop Toma from trying again?” Your question causes the elf-lord to pause, momentarily, with his wine glass. He looks deeply into your eyes. “Without working together, there’s no evidence to charge Captain Toma with anything. He’ll be a free man. A man who hates your kind and could care less that High King Gaston considers your people his kin.”   Raywhen sets the glass down on his leaf-pattern desk. “Go on.”   You smile…and Dorbane grins wide.   He knows that look.   “I believe, my lord Raywhen,” chuckles your best friend, “that my human counterpart has a clever idea.”     If you share your idea and then RETURN TO THE THREE SWORDS, go to #26   If you share your idea and RETURN WITH DAGAN TO HIS FATHER'S TENT, go to #113
