Interrogate the soldier #68

“Take that!” bellows Dorbane, “and THAT!” Each blow whips the soldiers head about…and makes the dwarf laugh louder. He cracks his knuckles and then grins at you. “I LIKE this!”   You sigh.   The soldier's eyes are nearly swollen shut—he’s refused to say a word for nearly an hour.   “What are you doing with those civilians!”   A smile curls back across his face—his split lips bleeding down his chin.   He spits in your face.   “Thats’ it!” cries Valda, “Let me drain his life force…”   Not even that suggestion get a rise from your prisoner.   He’s a trained soldier. Older, maybe in his early forties and he’s seen war. A lot of it. The scars on his face are many…and deep. Pain doesn’t seem to bother him.   …so why did he run?   “I’ve been so stupid!” you snap. Your friends look at you curiously.   “The camp,” you clarify, slapping your forehead. “That’s why he ran—he wanted us to follow him—to leave the campsite!!”   “Mercy,” whispers the Gypsy. “We have to get back—before the other one wakes up!”   You don’t have time to react. The soldier rolls forward from where he was propped against the boat, hands free, and catches your leg behind the achilles tendon. With his shoulder, he continues to roll forward, knocking you backwards onto the ground. In an instant, he’s on top of you!   The knife blade flashes in the moonlight.   …but it never falls.   The soldier grunts. His mouth opens in silence, eyes rolling back into his head—green light smoldering from both.   He falls on top of you.   “Ewww!” you yell, shoving the light, empty corpse off your chest.   Valda burps…just to freak you out.   Leaving the body on the shore of the lake, you sprint back to the camp as fast as you can.     Go to page #74
