Follow the Sound of Splashing! #65

“Alright,” grumbles the Kutollum, “I’ve got my wind back—let’s move.”
Valda checks her blade and you pull out your boot knife.
A large owl sails silently overhead, catching your attention as it blots out one of the moons for a moment. You follow its flight path as it softly caresses the stars, then vanishes from sight.
It’s then you notice movement, further down the shoreline. You tap your friends on the shoulders and motion for them to follow.
Staying low and behind the trees, you can make out the silhouette of someone pushing a boat out into the water.
“He’s getting away,” Valda curses. “If he does, he could cause all sorts of problems for us—he’s seen our faces!”
Shoving her blade back into her belt, she dashes out onto the shore.
“What are you doing?” Dorbane whispers nervously, “You’ll never be able catch him in time!”
“Watch me,” she retorts. Holding out a hand, she points a finger at the boat and starts singing a low-toned song. The sound rumbles deep from within her chest. The words are ancient, the tone all too familiar.
Your face goes pale.
The words. You recognize them, though you don’t have clue as to what they mean.
It’s an incantation to lull the soldier to sleep.
The only problem is…the last time Valda tried it, she almost killed herself!
