Clockworks Idol Tradition / Ritual in Wanted Hero | World Anvil
While many gnomes gather together with families and friends, basking in the sun and tasting the sweetmeats on the grill, the rest of Clockworks City is turning their attention to a much different summer tradition:

Clockworks Idol™

The Search for a Superstar
The #1 national singing competition television series, created by Janet & Dimitiris Geargrinder, produced by Pasttime CC and distributed by District 4 Media. It initially aired on CTv, Channel 527 in 6722CT to 136 million curious viewers.

History

Started as a community singing competition between rival University groups, Carmen Brightbolt from WHRN reported on the raw talent of the event. The radio correspondent was so impressed, she shared the musical sounds with their weekly 623,000,000 listeners. Dimitris, a long time fan and public supporter of WHRN, heard the live broadcast and immediately contacted Brightbolt directly.   Agents were sent from CNN to interview the participants from each school, while producers designed a bigger and better competition to be televised nationally.   With a kickoff season of 24 talented contestants and a paultry 62 million 'pilot' viewers (households paid to watch for research collection), executives were doubtful of the shows initial success, but there's a reason Dimitris Gearsgrinder is called the 'sweet-talking boy genius' in the corporate arena.   By tapping into his connections within the music industry through his wife and co-creator Janet Gearspinner, the couple gathered top talents to feed the flames of what would quickly become the greatest voice talent phenomenon in Gnome History.

Judges and Hosts

The show had originally planned on having three judges, two of which would include Janet Geargrinder, a highly successful and respected opera star, and Dimitris, who founded WRENCHED RECORDS™, the #1 music label in Clockworks. The third judge was originally TJ Wired, CEO and owner of MELIOR RECORDS™. But after heated arguments as to which label would have the rights to sign the victor of the competition, Janet proposed a change in the judging process.   Dimitris withdrew WRENCHED RECORDS™ and the couple assigned two additional judge seats, which would rotate each season. In addition to the new judges, music labels would be permitted to offer open contracts to the winner in a public bid...which dramatically increased public interest and participation.

Reception

Clockworks Idol™ premiered in Kree 6722CT and became the surprise summer hit show of both 6722CT and 6723CT. The first show drew 74 million viewers (not including the 62 million pilot viewers), giving CTv the worst viewing figure for the evening spot in over a year. Executives at CTv immediately called for the show to be pulled, but the Geargrinders convinced the network to give the show one more week--as such a concept had never been attempted before.   When word of the pilot spread among University students, the audience immediately jumped. By the second episode, the C.I. audience averaged 439 million, with more than 47 million watching some part of that show. That episode was placed third amongst all age groups, but more importantly, it led in the in 18–49 demographic, the age group most valued by advertisers.
The finale night when Kelly Clockston won over Justin Guardinhose was also the highest-rated ever CTv episode of any television series produced, at 781.1 million for the final hour. By the third season, the show had become the top-rated reality series in the 18–49 demographic a position it has held for all subsequent years, and its competition stages ranked first in the nationwide overall ratings.   By the fourth season, Clockworks Idol™ had become the most-watched series amongst all viewers on CTv.

I was SO worried when the executives talked about having Simon Fullofit step into that position. You're better qualified and I LOVED what you did with G.R.R. Marvins 'Game of Bones" series! ...huge fan of your work. HUGE fan.

I would have liked to have had better creative control over the final season, but...! At least we'll see a lot of creativity coming up in this show!
