“We’ll,” Captain Deron says impatiently, “let’s hear your plan.”
You’ve already come this far from home, experienced so much in the past few days…maybe it’s time to put your courage and loyalty to the test.
“I would join the military to weed out the scoundrel’s from the ranks.”
Dorbane almost drops his axe.
“You…would turn traitor…for the Kutollum?” asks Deron, perplexed.
“I wouldn’t consider this being a traitor, sir. I’m trying to assist in keeping the relations between the humans and your people. I would be weeding out the traitors, as far as I’m concerned.”
“But those in charge might not share your definition,” clarifies Dorbane. He steps forward, grabbing your arm. “Should you be caught, you could be hanged…or worse.”
“Plus, there is the matter that we Kutollum would be accused of turning the humans against their own. No…I do not believe this is a wise plan.”
You stand upright, at attention. “Captain Deron, with respect sir, I have made up my mind to join the noble ranks of Toma’s regiment. I came to serve High King Gaston and I intend to do just that. With, or without your approval.”
Deron grins at Dorbane. “Seems you keep good company after all, Dorbane. I was beginning to worry.”
Your best friend hits you in the shoulder. “I think you you still should, sir.”
The Captain laughs out loud and shows you out.
“Then go about your business, young human and I’ll be interested in knowing what you find…if anything.”
