Vilʹnilyudy
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Vilʹnilyudy are a semi-nomadic semi-militaristic people from the Kingdom of Nakilnul. Vilʹnilyudy are given a great amount of self governance in return for military service and are a racially heterogenous group, comprised of humans and dwarves; furthermore, while one can be born a Vilʹnilyudy, it is very common for outsiders to join a vatavershnyka.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Quick to Anger, Fast to Celebrate. The Vilʹnilyudy value three things above all else - freedom, community, and loyalty. However, in Vilʹnilyudy society, those three are a single concept, which they call simeynyykley.
Braids
Vilʹnilyudy men wear a hairstyle that features a long lock of hair sprouting from the top or the front of an otherwise closely shaven head. This lock is grown as long as possible and tied into an inctricate topknot. This custom originated from the fact that most humans are unable to grow beards as impressive as most dwarves are; thus, this unique hairstyle rose as a sort of compromise, for lack of a better term, that allows all Vilʹnilyudy to participate. Many Vilʹnilyudy often grow their hair as long as possible, sometimes reaching over a meter in length; due to the dwarves artistry and intricate understanding of topology and knot theory, even hairs of this length are neatly tied into topknots which fit under a helmet.Riding
All Vilʹnilyudy are expected to be able to ride mounts from a very young age, starting since childhood. They mostly ride horses, tsughts, or pygmy tsughts.Major organizations
A Vatavershnyka (plural Vatavershnyki) is a vil'nilyudy word that describes a group, equivalent to somewhere between a band, a tribe, and a clan. A vatavershnyka is usually comprised of dozens of individuals, usually no more than a hundred. A Nesvoya is a group within a vatavershnyka which encompasses the young, the elderly, and their caretakers; it specifically refers to any of those who are either not yet or not anymore fit for combat, and may thus also include the injured and sick.
A Nespivershnyka is comprised of several vatavershnyki and can comprise of hundreds to thousands of individuals; nespivershnykas usually only gather for major festivals or in cases where the vil'nilyudy community at large has to make a decision (such as in full blown wars or when negotiating for political power).
