Krath
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Krath, formally the Republic of Krath and also known as the Krath Metropolitan Area, is the name of both a free city and a sub-faction of the Altopiani Coalition. Formerly an archduchy, it was part of the First and Second Empires of Ader until The Great Kadian Split, when a series of violent uprisings culminated in a revolution, after which the people of Krath reformed it into a republic. The majority of Krathians are descendants of Kadian refugees from the time of the First Salemizia. The Republic of Krath publicly denounces The Raven Queen, and the city of Krath is the only free city with a majority of followers of The Four rather than The Five. As much as 2% of all members of the Andorian Church live in Krath, making it the densest concentration of church members outside Pact territories.
History
The city of Krath was founded by Kadians refugees who escaped from the Andorian War of Succession and the first salemizia. As time went on, more and more people started settling in the surrounding land, eventually becoming a duchy.
Following The Kavirian War, Sandor Amarell and the duke of Krath reached an agreement where the now-archduchy would become a client state of Ader. Krath was a major asset for the Aderian empire and gave it a secure access to vast networks of maritime trade; however, with the empire's dissolvement, the people of Krath saw no reason to remain a client state. This lead to a series of clashes between the archduke and his subjects, culminating in a quick yet violent revolution which saw the formation of the Republic of Krath.
Annexation
As regaining control over Krath was one of the Kadian Dominion's main objectives in its spread eastwards, during the SFLK's reconquest of the Kaviri Highlands, queen Grandeur Andoriani sought to induct the republic into the pact through diplomatic means; however, Krathian public opinion was split. When Draxig was reconquered in 802 AB, the fringe notion of willingly joining rather than being conquered, amplified by Aderian agents, became impossible to ignore, and a referendum was set to be held in the 30th of Last Rain (30th of Coppernium in the Ervenian Calendar). On the 28th of Last Rain, under the pretense of ensuring the referendum is not fraudulent, the Aderian Royal Army and the Saltisian Armed Forces marched into the republic's territory, facing no resistance from the Krathian border forces. When the Might of the Holy Pact entered the city, accompanied by hundreds of local troops, they were greeted by many of the locals, who celebrated the unification of the lands given by The Four. The referendum was held on the planned date, and officially recorded as having a support of 87% with a 97.8% voter rate.Corgomuran Accord
As Krath was reinducted into the SFLK as an archduchy, the elected Krathian government was deposed and elections were abolished; this caused the neighboring free cities to start forming into coalitions in order to protect themselves, as they realised being conquered is a very tangible threat.
