Feywild
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Feywild is one of the three Material Planes, together with the Prime Material Plane and the Shadowfell. Characterized by unrestrained emotions and vibrant colors, the plane is considered to be the most "saturated" of the three. It is the home-plane of the Fey originated, and from where the first elves arrived in Theras.
The Feywild is a place of unrestrained and awe-inspiring natural beauty. The plane is always bathed in strange twilight of both a setting and rising sun, with lanterns and fireflies providing additional, haunting lights. Visitors to the plane find that all sensations, both sensory and emotional, are heightened: smells are stronger, colors are more vivid, and sounds are clearer, but at the same time shadows are darker, impulses are harder to control, and emotions might be overwhelming.
The most common means of traversing in or out of the Feywild is through a fey crossroad, an area where another material plane overlaps with the Feywild. This allows creatures and fey beings to pass back-and-forth between the two planes at matching geographical locations without needing to traverse the Astral Plane.
Courts
While the plane is wild and free-spirited, a certain sort of order and hierarchy exists; some fey may be part of a court, a broad term that often refers to an Archfey's retinue or their sphere of general influence. The most notable of these are the Court of Roses, the Court of Midsummer, and the Court of Mag Tureah. Other inhabitants of the Feywild either serve another archfey, or hold no allegiances except at their own whims.Geography
The geography of the Feywild is similar, although not entirely identical, to that of the Prime and the Shadowfell; the natural landscape is markedly more dramatic and beautiful in the Feywild, with mountains standing straighter and sharper, rivers flowing clearer and faster, flowers blooming brighter and more fragrantly, and weather manifesting in supernatural ways. Sites of civilization in the Prime can be so unimportant in the Feywild as to be easily missed, while natural landmarks may be significantly more majestic or extreme. Navigating the Feywild is further complicated by the fact that distances are often anisotropic - that is, dependent on direction; two landmarks may be the same distance apart as in the Prime when travelling in one direction, but farther or closer on the return trip.
Notable Locations
The lands of the Feywild answer to different powers than those on Theras, as some regions attune to the most powerful creature nearby, fey or otherwise. These regions warp to reflect the emotion or attitude of the creature to which they are attuned, with everything from the weather to the landscape changing to be more dismal, peaceful, or dangerous. However, unlike the Shadowfell, a creature can not exert direct or conscious control over these areas, even if the area is attuned to it. Much of the elven or eladrin civilizations have their earliest roots here and abandoned remnants of their culture litter the landscape. Unlike the elves, however, who had all but abandoned the Feywild, some eladrin remain behind in the Feywild, most notably the Fey Eladrin, who still rule thriving kingdoms and strong citadels. Some notable elven cities and settlements are located at points where the barrier between the planes is extremely thin, and as a result they exist in both the Prime and the Feywild simultaneously; such locations include Owhain and the Demesne of Sybinlyn.Feydark
The Feydark is the echo of the Prime Underdark in the Feywild. Like most parts of the Feywild, it is more majestic and fantastic than its natural counterpart, with cavernous maze-like tunnels filled with exotic fungi. The feydark is the home of the Fomorians. The Tales
The Tales refer to three splinter-realms within the feywild, known as Hither, Thither, and Yon. These are connected by metaphysical cobwebs and ruled by Yarnspinner, an enormous fey spider that attracts myriad faeries with its near endless supplies of stories and tales.Localized Phenomena
Time does not flow the same in the Feywild as on the Prime. While any visitor experience time flowing as normal, it is often the case that more time is passing in the Prime, sometimes on the order of tendays, months, or years longer than expected, although it is also possible for little or no time to have passed instead. More concerning, leaving the Feywild can have dire consequences - lost time can suddenly "catch up" with a mortal, sending them into fits of exhaustion, hunger, or even killing them instantly of old age.
Primal and arcane magic runs more freely and powerfully in the Feywild than it does in the Prime, suffusing many of the inhabitants and landmarks with innate magic. Primal spells cast within the Feywild may be enhanced, while arcane spells may act unpredictably.
Those with no fey magic or blood within them may find the memories of their time spent in the Feywild turning hazy or vanishing altogether, as if it were all a dream.
Fauna & Flora
The Feywild is home to unique varieties of plant life, including various fungi that hold supernatural properties. Most animals in the feywild are similar to their counterparts in the prime, with slight alterations that fit the nature of the fey - they are more playful, their fur is heavier and better kempt, and they are ever so slightly more intelligent.
Goblinkin, Ogres can be found in the more sinister regions of the plane.
Inhabitants
The inhabitants of the Feywild, known as fey, vary in temperament from kind to malicious; virtually all fey have a mischievous side to them and few stop to consider the needs or worries of visitors to their home. Other creatures that dwell within the Feywild include Faerie Dragons; Fey Eladrin, the descendants of the elves that never left the Feywild and over the millennia had become suffused with the plane's primal magic; Fomorians and their servitor Cyclopes that rule much of the Feydark; and Kitsune, reincarnated mortal souls taking the form of fox-headed creatures.Goblinkin, Ogres can be found in the more sinister regions of the plane.
