Kitsune
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Kitsune are fox-headed shapechangers known for their trickery and appreciation of beauty. While they generally prefer harmless pranks, their tricks can become dangerous when they are angered, insulted, or threatened.
Kitsune have two forms: an anthropomorphic fox and an attractive humanoid with a slender build and piercing eyes. They often excel as rogues, investigators, and bards, while those with magical talent tend towards sorcery, oracles, or witchcraft.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Kitsune are not born in the traditional sense; rather, they are manifestations of souls left incomplete by an imperfect death on the Prime Material Plane. When a humanoid dies but their soul does not fully depart to its destined plane, a fragment of their essence remains tied to the Feywild, taking on a new existence as a Kitsune.
The process is tied to the balance of a soul's composition. Each Soul has components: Anima (its vital essence or spirit) and genius (its rational intellect or identity). If 50% of a soul lingers in the Feywild without altering the balance between anima and genius, the result is creating a Kitsune imbued with the mischievous and ever-changing nature of the Feywild and usually this occurs for a couple who are willing to be granted this endeavor of 'birth'. However, if the balance shifts (for instance, if 50% of the soul remains, but it is wholly anima or wholly genius), the soul instead manifests in the Shadowfell, it does in fact, creates a Shadow.
