Shadow
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
A Shadow is a form of incorporeal fel undead that spontaneously rise when a creature’s soul fails to completely depart the Prime Material Plane and remains anchored to the Shadowfell. Most shadows are spawned by other shadows.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
When a humanoid dies but their soul does not fully depart to its destined plane, a fragment of their essence remains tied to the Material Plane. Should the soul fragment become negative, that is, if a greater portion of its genius or anima remain, it will become anchored to the Shadowfell, taking on a new existence as a shadow. Should it remain positive, that is, if an equal portion of its genius or anima remain, it will become a Kitsune.
There are three reasons that this may occur: either the humanoid was slain with necromantic magic; the humanoid was killed by a shadow, in which case it will become subservient to its slayer; or most rarely, as a roll of the cosmic die.
