Elmnor's Veil
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Elmnor's Veil is a secluded province within Aluda'ar. It is known for its seven towering Arcanosteles, monumental fey-runed obelisks that pulse with arcane energy.
Elmnor's Veil is forbidden to elves, citing the deadly curse known as the Griefblight, an incurable affliction that affects any elf who steps too close to the Arcanosteles. Despite this prohibition, rumors persist of ancient elven ties to the obelisks, and whispers of those who seek to reclaim them grow louder with each passing year.
Demographics
The inhabitants of Elmnor's Veil are a curious mix of mortal settlers, fey refugees, and awakened creatures. Key groups include:
- The Thornbinders: A cabal of druids who maintain strict oversight of the Arcanosteles and the surrounding lands. While they honor the Feywild, they remain fiercely loyal to Aluda'ar, believing that balance is best maintained under the state’s rule.
- The Bound Fey: Fey creatures bound to oaths that tie them to the Veil. Some act as mediators between the Thornbinders and the natural world, while others are rumored to resist their mortal handlers in subtle, mischievous ways.
- Awakened Guardians: The forests of Elmnor's Veil are home to awakened animals, including a wise council of awakened dire stags who are said to carry the memories of the land.
History
In 303 AB, the High Elves abandoned this region for reasons buried in myth and shadow, leaving it to be ruled by the Thornbinders, a druidic order sworn to preserve the Veil's ancient pacts and secrets.
In the wake of the elves' departure, the Thornbinders took control of the region. They forged pacts with Fey entities to protect the land and ensure the Arcanosteles' safety, aligning themselves with Aluda'ar to gain its protection.
Architecture
The most magnificent key point is the Arcanosteles, which are seven monumental obelisks made of glittering greenstone, covered in Fey runes and glowing softly with arcane energy. They are said to form a delicate connection to the Feywild, though the exact purpose of this connection remains a closely guarded secret of the Thornbinders.
Geography
The town is known also for its two key landmarks:
- Eclipsed Rivers: Two dark, reflective rivers—Mistsoul Brook and Shadowflow Creek—meet in the heart of the Veil, forming a mist-shrouded lake. The water is rumored to reveal glimpses of the Feywild to those brave enough to look.
- Duskwind Glade: A dense forest teeming with magical flora and fauna. It is both the spiritual heart of Elmnor’s Veil and the source of many of its most potent resources.
