The Eternal Battlefield

Geography

The Eternal Battlefield was once gentle rolling hils and acres upon acres of farmlands. Nestled in the heart of Cailar, the verdant land was abundant with fields of crops and vineyards nestled in lush forests.   Twenty years of war have transformed the land, destroying most of the usable farmland and turning it into useless dirt. The edges are still green, if only out of spite for the constant conflict between the many intervening kingdoms embroiled in conflict. As one reaches for the heart, however, the ground turns to ash and the trees stand barren of foliage. Rivers and creeks are dry, if not clogged with dead branches and corpses. Few, if any, can still sustain life.

Ecosystem

Suprisingly, life is slowly returning to the Eternal Battlefield-the last few years of calm have allowed migrating birds to nest and spread seeds, and for deer and elk to graze along the edges. Still, most of the land remains nothing more than barren mud.

Tourism

Few sane people have any reason to visit the Eternal Battlefield-The current treaty between Cailsmarch, the Cailaran Republich and the Cailsmoch Confederacy means that the land is relatively untouched, if only so it can begin to heal. Those who must venture into the barren land must first visit Ohm, one of the few surviving villages on the outskirts of the Eternal Battlefield.   If one did, for some reason, need to visit, it would be for the Cathedral of St. Jordan. Once a popular destination and the center of many pilgrimages, the Cathedral now stands abandoned, its towers defiant against hail and hellfire both. The Pilgrim trails, marked with a [symbol], are the only safe path through the Battlefield-this has been agreed upon by all. Not even the most cutthroat rogue dares to destroy or trap the trails. The The Church of the Creator is hopeful that, once the land disputes are finally settled, they can return to restore their sacred Pilgrim site.
