Legacy of the Star-Sailors

The Memoria are an ancient race, whose influence still dots and scars the Mortal Lands long after their people stopped walking its green earth. Not much is known about their history, except in generalities-The Mechanical constructs that are their legacy have been cagey regarding their creators. What is known is a cautionary lesson in hubris; that they sailed the stars from a distant planet, seeking to establish a new dominion for themselves. They came to the Mortal Lands, still fresh and green from the footsteps of the Creator. Ignoring the carefully and lovingly made Creation, the Memoria established their own cities, fortresses, and industrial sectors, tearing up the very land beneath their feet.   Yet they dug too deep, too freely. No one is sure how the Stillewiege plague that struck the Memoria down came to be, only that it struck swiftly and silently. Within a few generations, the Memoria were all but wiped out. Rather than entrust their legacy to the few tribes of the Creator's people they had subjugated and the Mechanicals, they bitterly and greedily took their secrets to the grave with them, deciding that if they could not Claim the Mortal Lands for themselves, no one would.   Culture of the Memoria   What little information has been gleaned about the Memoria as a people indicates that while they valued recreation and the arts, they did not want to invest in it. Or in any sort of work, really. While the original settlers may have had good intentions in establishing their own paradise, what eventually emerged was a world where no one had to work... and therefore, no one had a purpose. The Mechanicals handled everything from industry to food service to the creation of art and moving pictures. The Memoria found themselves drifting from home to home, desperately seeking some sort of meaning, some connection in the perfect world they had created.   The search soon fell to depravity as the Memoria sought anything that would give them passion, emotion, purpose for just a few minutes. Their endless parties grew to eternal duldrums when they offered no real respite. The complex chemical concoctions they devised to experience new ecasties only left them further wanting. And the comfort of another arms felt empty when there was no real connection, no real affection.

Basic Information

Anatomy

As far as any current archeologist can confirm, the Memoria were not that much different from the human people that now walk the Mortal Lands. Most of this comes from the design of the Mechanicals, as people are wont to create such complex designs in their own image. Strangely, no intact image of the Memoria remains to the present day. The Mechanicals attest that this is due to the fact that all their imagery and art was saved in Atmo, which has been offline since the Memoria passed.
