Khatayin Hall

Look, Ma!   Khatayin Hall...   It's were all the big stars go to be famous!   I'm gonna be one of them someday...

The World of Wonder

Khatayin Hall was, for the longest time, a struggling theatre on the outskirts of Poartlind. When the original theatre burned down in 1883, There was little public support for any sort of replacement. All that was left was the floor of the theatre, a few crumbling walls, and the radial that wasn't even the theatre's property; it was just the most convenient place to install it. But a young millionare with more dollars than cents look at the crumbling ruin and saw potential. His brother, see, was closely involved with Mira's military research into sending transmissions over the air via these radials.   What else could be sent, he wondered. Surely more than short bursts of military movements and orders?   All the firemen could hear was the sound of crumbling ash, but Quincy Khatayin heard music.
His contemporaries called him mad, of course. But Quincy was quite the persuasive man-some said he learned it from his father, others say he talked the skill out of him. Quincy purchased the land the crumbling theatre was on, and had all but the floor of the original theatre brushed away. Through deals, cunning hints at money and promising the former actors of the theatre that they would still have work, he began to build. The first performance of 'Radial Theatre' as he called it, was held in a recording room that was still being built. To say that the sounds of construction were authentic was putting it lightly. Still, those who had the recievers to pick up the transmission praised it-theatre in the comfort of one's own home. Support soon began to flow in like a river.   There were setbacks, of course, but they did nothing to dissuade the now-famous millionare. When Khatayin hall was finished, it stood a towering six stories, which was still impressive for Poartlind's architecture at the time. The Raidial arrays, the neighbors compained, were unsightly, but the art that poured out of the building was anything but, so they kept their complaints to themselves.

A City Never Silent

To say that Khatayin Hall put Poartlind in the middle of the map when it came to Raidal entertainment is to sell the hard work of its many performers, audio technicians, and Khatayin himself short. Before the Radial Theatres began, Radials and their recievers were mere curiosities, toys for rich men with poor sense and idle curiosity. Not five years after Khatayin hall opened its doors almost every house had at the very least, a small Radial reciever.
"The World Shall hear us Sing   And Fall Silent in Wonder   For our Voices shall reach the very ends   of the Mortal Lands themselves."

Radial Theatres -The most promient and famous of the many shows, concerts and segments at Khatayin Hall, the world of the stage brought to life through mere voice and sound effect.   Concerts -The small and cramped concert halls of Poartlind suddenly found new voice through Radials, and soon thousands could listen in attendance... and, of course, be inspired to buy the accompanying records.   News Segments and Public Service Announcements -Mira's governing body was not ignorant as to this new power of Radial. With a side arrangement with Quincy, they are permitted an hour each day to cover important governing practices, upcoming festivals, and be used as a method of broadcasting to the public at large in the event of a public emergency.
