The Bane of Magic witheld of Teeth
For Every Light, there is a Shadow. And for such a brilliant Light as the The Keepers of The Oath, there are very dark shadows indeed. The Erudite Epistimi are the opposite of the Mages in every way. To them Magic has become on the scourge on the land, and wish to see it wiped from the Mortal Lands entirely. It is almost ironic that these vehement opponents of magic are so like the ancient magic users themselves; Wizards.
Structure
The Erudites are a circle, no beginning and no end. To that end they have no formal leader. All work equally and share rewards equally. While this organizational structure sounds good on paper, in practice it is far from ideal. With no one overseeing projects or distribution of assets, the Circle is left to squabble over resources. They also tend to be at odds with each other, rather than working towards a singular goal they spread out like a spiderweb, attacking magic from many different angles. Unfortunately no single angle has been enough to even shake one of the tenents of magic.
Public Agenda
While the Agenda of the Erudites is far from public, their agenda is the destruction of any and all traces of magic. The members of the circle have attacked this goal from a number of angles, some more proficient than others. Perhaps the most effective has been the destruction of Sources; the wellsprings of magic that gave Wizards their strength. It is hard to destroy a Source, and when it happens it happens very destructively. Others have tried to chip away at the foundation of the Keepers of the Oath, forcing the organization to crumble and send their enemies into disarray. Still others have wormed their way into libraries and research centers, causing books and materials to disappear.
History
The Erudite Epistími were founded in 1834, at the beginning of the first Scientific age. These learned men and women came together to further the advancement of science in society, rather than that of magic. It should be noted that when the Eruidite Epistimi was first founded, their goal was not the same as it was today. The original organization's goal was to establish Science as just as useful a tool as Magic when it came to serving functions in society. However, over time their progress was stymied by the Keepers of the Oath, Whose eternal dedication to serving society with magic (and several hundred year's head start) often left the Erudites in the dust. Just before the turn of the century the organization went underground, and turned to tearing down their rival rather than working alongside them.
Today the Organization works in secret, doing their best to tear down magic in its entirety, leaving only science as the dominant force of advancement, much like the Memoria of the distant past. Whether or not they realize this would shake the laws of the Mortal Lands down to its very core, or if they even care anymore, is left to be determined.
