The Reunic War of Conquest was a conflict that occured around 200 years after the conclusion of the God War. The agressor nation, Reuni, invaded the smaller nation of Vorogo in an attempt to turn the latter country into their vassal. Reuni was successful, though only due to the intervention of an Archfey.

The Conflict

Prelude

For the years preceeding the war, Reuni had their eye on Vorogo's land. The recent formation of the Great Scar had cut Reuni's predecessor nation of Ryalor's land nearly in half, and the newly-formed government led by the first God-Queen wished to expand. The route to Vransia through the mountains was too difficult, a fight they were bound to lose, and so Reuni would gather its armies to attack Vorogo instead.

Deployment

Vorogo knew that Reuni's forces would be attacking well before the war actually started. Diplomacy between the two nations had become cold and sparse, and so Vorogo knew to prepare for an attack from their south. While this was happening, Reuni recruited as many soldiers as they possibly could, training them minimally and placing them in units based solely upon convenience.

Outcome

Nearing the end of the war, the God-Queen knew that Vorogo would be able to outlast Reuni if they kept going as-is. Her forces were dying quicker than they could kill Vorogo's, and her people were getting exhausted from the war efforts. So, she sought extraplanar help. She made a deal with the Archfey Yxjun, who had the leader of Vorogo killed. This event crippled Vorogo, and they lost the war shortly afterwards.
Vorogo was devastated after the conclusion of the war. Its fields burned and salted, its villages torched, and the spirits of its people broken, there was little for anyone to do. Initially, some rebel groups would crop up, though this never go anywhere, and only result in disproportionat backlach to their communities from the Reunic government.

Aftermath

Over time, Reuni would begin to try to erase the people and culture of Vorogo. This started out incredibly small, applying laws exclusive to the Vorogan territory meant to make cultural practises more difficult. For the initial centuries, Reunic laws were fairly mild and rarely enforced, and the Vorogan people became comfortable bribing the few local officials and just continuing on with their life as usual. The most recent God-Queen of Reuni has been much more aggressive with her approach, building more government infrastructure and assigning more guards and police. Recently, she has even assigned a new lord over the Vorogan territories, who has been nothing but cruel to the people.

Historical Significance

Most of the history of the Reunic War of Conquest, at least that is taught in schools, is heavily propagandised and biased towards Reuni. The actual history of the war is rarely taught, as Reuni instead teaches that the Vorogans were savage and disorganised until Reuni swooped in to save them from themselves. This story has become so widespread that there are even Vorogans who believe it, and there are few who know of the true history of the war.
Still, the ripples of the war are painfully noticeable in the modern day. There is a clear divide in the wellness of Reuni's citizens and their quality of living between what was once the border of Reuni and Vorogo. There is also clear prejudice for the Vorogan people in Reuni, in their stereotypes and their infrastructure.

In Literature

The Reunic War of Conquest does show up in various pieces of literature, though not from an unbiased perspective. A great many stories are of Reunic "heroes" that played a role in the war, and in the vast majority of these stories the Vorogans are the villains. Slightly (but not significantly) less biased information on the war appears in history textbooks as well, though Reuni is still celebrated and Vorogo still painted as the villain.

Strength

Reuni had numbers on their side, though their forces were largely untrained, making their numbers their only strength. They fought in formations, but if these formations were broken apart, an individual soldier stood little chance - this weakness was exploited by Vorogan forces.
Vorogo's millitary was trained incredibly well, with their legions able to work together as a unit, and their chain of command rigid enough to prevent dissent while flexible enough to not cause disaster when a high-ranking member was killed or lost in action.

Casualties

Reuni had casualties in the millions, needing to replace a good amount of their soldiers throughout the course of the war. Most of their soldiers were expendable.
Vorogo had significantly fewer casualties than Reuni, but this is largely due to their lower population and smaller armies. The majority of their forces were wiped out.

Objectives

Reuni's objective was to occupy the entirety of Vorogo.
Vorogo's objective was to defend their country from Reuni's invasion

Poor Vorogo. :( The bit about propaganda is interesting, but not surprising. It's a shame even some Vorogans are beginning to believe it.
