The Falsyth War

It is the folly of mortals to resist the weave of fate, but so too is it to rush her design. The Three Sisters weave these follies into their pattern as well, however. It is not for a mortal to say whether this is to amuse themselves or pay homage to the vanity of mortals. Given the dire consequences of the Third Battle of the Falsyth Plains, it is perhaps more pertinent to consider whether magic is woven into the Sisters' design. If it is not, is it right that mortals use it? If it is, is it a force of mortals or of gods?

--Daravon, Magic and the Empire
From the Frozen Nails of Thendelbald in the north to the Allegri Strait in the continent's south. Resistance to the Empire's march had gathered in the continent's northwest, the territory now known as Falsyth. The Free Peoples Coalition, as they styled themselves, were a ramshackle resistance group aided by the beastkin of the Myr Islands and the halflings of the Falsyth hills. The halflings specialised in guerilla tactics, which had ever been an issue for the structured tactics of the Imperial Army.

The Empire had attempted to bring Falsyth under its flag two times already. Both had been embarrassing defeats for the Empire. General Erondus of Scepero was determined to be better than his forerunners. He considered tactics prior, and considered the lay of the land. His failsafe, an experimental arcane equation, was what ended the conflict. The spell, requiring the power and skill of one hundred and sixty-nine magicians, upheaved the plains and tore open a rift in reality that resulted in demons stranded on the continent. Though it was a high price to pay, the tactics did result in an Imperial victory, and the region bent knee to the Emperor.

The Conflict

Outcome

Falsyth became a vassal territory under the flag of the Empire. The halflings were sent to the Imperial homeland as slaves, and the beastkin -- deemed too animalistic to be of service, were slaughtered.

Aftermath

The Falsyth Tablelands remain as a monument to the lives lost and the cost of haphazard use of magic.
