The Azure Ember Item in Tellanor | World Anvil

The Azure Ember

The Azure Ember chooses its owner, it is said. Some relics with this force of will damage others who dare to touch them. Embers do not; but they do not function for any save their chosen owners. The Azure Ember is an important symbol to the Fidiran people -- one that embodies the longing for a return of the Empire, and the belief that Fidira is the inheritor of the the Morbhaine Empire's light.

-- Perius Eisseldon, Treasures of the Empire
The Azure Ember is a gem housing the Flame of Magic's light. Its rightful owner can harness its power to enhance and expand their arcane abilities. The Ember's present owner is Princess Beatrice of Fidira.

In the days of the Morbhaine Empire, the Flame of Magic seemed inexhaustible; an endless supply of energy for the empire. Constant experimentation led to an array of inventions that improved the quality of imperial life. Rituals were devised to house arcane equations inside objects. Some ingenious rituals resulted in self-perpetuating equations. The most astounding of these artifacts captured and stabilised within them sparks of the Flame. Seven of these unique magicite relics were made, incidentally or intentionally representing the seven hues of the rainbow. The Verdant Ember lies dormant in Tamardam, and the other five are presumed to be lost to time.

The Embers were made by circles of Imperial magi, concentrating on and channeling specific combinations of elemental power. In order to host a fraction of the Flame, the equations required precise, firm logic and immense focus. Needless to say, without the Flame, there is no hope of recreating this process. Some scholars believe that the Embers were a failsafe, and if the seven can be reunited, the Flame of Magic will once again shine across Tellanor.
