The Runeflower

Being in the oldroads again makes me miss the constant light of the runeflower. It's harder to keep track of time without it, but even harder to keep safe. We should be going back soon.   --40th of Mercury, Year 41

Purpose / Function

To act as the light source for The City of Stadupglod. Runs around a track suspended miles above the city along the walls of the volcano, completing a rotation every twelve hours which cycles back and forth between sunlight and moonlight.

Architecture

Made of many thin steel "petals", the Runeflower is 100 yards wide and covered in tiny delicate runes of light, order, and protection, as well as runes that suppress Chaos, Dark, and Death energies. Every twelve hours, the light runes cycle between glowing bright as daylight and as dim as moonlight, dividing the days in Stadupglod into twelve hour days and twelve hour nights.

History

The sun that The Planet Dwan once orbited was consumed by the Thanixian during the Second Thanixian War, and so there was no light source for Stadupglod beyond the bio-luminescent fungus species created by the immortal dwarves as a power free light source. The Gnomes of The Cogni Agum constructed the Runeflower in order to solve the problems living with no sun was causing the citizens of the city.
