My Goal

World Anvil Summer Camp 2024 Certificate for Copper
World Anvil Summer Camp 2024 Certificate by World Anvil

This was my second Summer Camp, and I did better than last year. I pledged to meet the Copper goal and managed to complete 8 prompts (although I did 5 of them in the last 24 hours of the event).

My Experience

My biggest issue this year was that I'd started revising my theme for this worldsite (a month or 2 before Summer Camp), and it wasn't quite done when Summer Camp started. On top of that, the colors were wrong, and I changed them 2 or more times before I finally liked them. And by then, it was already 3 weeks into Summer Camp.
I had a number of articles that matched the prompts and would work well in Ruartei, but I knew they would take too long when I realized that I needed to revise my old notes (especially the dates) before I would be happy with those articles.
I had been thinking about starting a new world, a fantasy world. And I decided to take the plunge and write my Summer Camp articles in the new world. This is totally new, no old notes or anything. I did start with the meta, and I am including old concepts, but new content. And I will be commissioning a theme for the new world.
I'm pretty happy with the results, although the last 5 articles were a bit rushed. I'm particularly happy with my Dragon Pigs article. (It's the first species I've completed on World Anvil.) Also, I repurposed the commissioned artwork (by DaxThinksNot) I had gotten for an RPG campaign that just didn't work out. I'm much happier turning the character into a preeminent storyteller, anyway. She's much more at home in my new world, Mielle. (You'll find the commissioned character portrait in the article.)

Articles

During Summer Camp, I managed to read a few of the articles submitted by others. But I saved most of my notifications for this month. I plan to look through them and comment on at least 10 article that I find inspiring, helpful, or just plain enjoy.

From The Sealed Kingdoms by BCGR_Wurth

A good example of how to write about an interesting material in an informative, but not too word way.

From Astra Planeta by SpyglassRealms

An inspiring technology. And a good example article on how to write about it.

From The Million Islands by Demongrey

A great example of using short and meaningful quotes along with an interesting story about a temporary place.

From Aran'sha by Tyrdal

A well-written article about an interesting myth with an mysterious backstory about a rare flower.

From Valtena by Elizabread (Alishahr)

This article is a very detailed, yet concise, description about a rare and expensive silk.

From Astra Planeta by SpyglassRealms

A good description of a spacesuit, including how its adpated for various species.

From Elaqitan by Blue Fairy 74

Cool description of gate transportation. Really liked the timeline and quotes.

From Niorath by Kefkejaco

Very intersting myth about how magic came to the peoples of this world.

From Pearl Directive by hughpierre

An interesting concept. I want to revisit this later to see if it's expanded.

From wow that's a lot of stars by Rin Garnett (Those2Nerds)

Great condition. Article is excellent example of how to write about a major plague or other type of illness.

Worldbuilding Goals

My goals are pretty simple. Establish (and try to maintain) a regular writing habit of producing/improving articles on my two world. In particular, my new fantasy world.

I already keep a list of articles to use as good examples for my own work. And I'll add several of the ones above to that list.

Restyling right before an event is always a risk, but the results look great! I also dipped into a brand new setting for a few articles this year, it gives such a nice, unrestricted feeling. Glad you also had some fun with it! Thank you for the feature, as well :)
