The wind carries embers over the horizon, soon, we will be deep in the storm once again.
That is to say— WorldEmber is almost here! This year I'm likely going to take it a bit slower, as I've not quite recovered from whatever strange thing sucked up my energy with an absurdly large straw. But, I hope to take advantage of this to not only get good things written, but
also to try and get myself back in the proper swing of things.
With my goal being more broad in that sense,
I am only officially shooting for 10k words this year! As with previous years, a significant chunk of this wordcount will come from a short story or two. Of note, a
smaller portion of my words written this month will
not be counted because they belong to the ongoing choose your own adventure story on my
Patreon, which is coming towards a conclusion sometime this month, and will be posted as a manuscript on WA once complete.
In broad strokes, my goals this year are;
- Write at least 10k words
- Write at least 2 articles per world
- Write at least 1 short story
- Do a sick flip when no one's looking. Guys, I swear I really did it! You just weren't there and now I'm too nervous.
Community goals
As with last year, I aim to help the community as I can, too. For one, I am pumping the gas and starting the World Club back up! The World Club is, basically, a book club— but instead of
books, each week we vote on and read an
article here on World Anvil. With a strict "no articles from World Club members" policy, we focus on finding new worlds and new authors to support! This month we'll be focusing specifically on articles from World Ember, so if you're interested in joining, make sure to
join my Discord server and grab the World Traveller role!
I am also starting a new podcast— Talk Tower— over on my
Twitch channel, where I will be interviewing generally cool folk— all guests this month should be World Anvil users, each with their own unique perspectives and advice for others!
Qet
With pretty much all the essentials for the TTRPG written out, I can relax a bit and focus more on what articles are mentioned a lot by others, or, simply what I find fun!
With the recent change to include more recurring characters, I may work on articles the extant ones are connected to, and might even introduce some more. Who knows? Either way, character stories will progress this month!
Articles I might write
- TBD- Inter-species lovers: A relationship between a human, and an eldritch being.
- TBD- Village of Failures: Louh village, full of exiles.
- Tihuetil: Apostates of Ytzklapon.
APRA
Articles I might write
- Private Aye: Ok. I am 100% writing this one. I love this character already even as a stub, might get a portait, even!
- Nadalia Trent: And her precious hoagie, of course.
- Another Christmas Event: Sanda will return, probably.
ALL GOOFS ALL THE TIME, BABY. This year I do actually have some "required" articles to write! Now that I know the broader structure of the ACF, there are departments to write about, their directors, and of course— sponsors.
But, at the end of the day, I'm just going to write whatever I find funny at the time! Even if it's not even a stub! Ok maybe I'll try to focus on stubs first, but goofs follow their own rules.
Heliox Stardust
Now this is an especially interesting case— as Heliox Stardust underwent a reboot this year. I barely touched it last year since the compromised world it was at the time was much less exciting than my initial ideas. Pro tip: if you want to co-write a new world with someone, don't come together with two fully fleshed out ideas for different worlds and try to make them fit.
Now, I am much more excited about writing new things for Heliox! I might go and write part 2 of the short story from last year, after editing the first to fit the rebooted world, now. We'll see!
Articles I might write
- The Library of Alexandria: Headquarters of Alexandria, buried beneath the deserts of Egypt. Nearly impossible to locate.
- Factions: Free Orbit Clans, The Last Dynasty, or Alexandria
- The Eyes of Horus: A famous trio of duster heroes, who are pretty much Heliox's main characters.
Umqwam
Articles I might write
- The Mirage Saloon: Mythic saloon that appears at random, home to legendary drinks, and legendary people.
- Yowan: The nest in which the Qatiip live, and also where the novella takes place.
- Tiqwaa: Nation of the Qatiip, setting of the novella.
I should probably maybe just a little bit try to focus on articles related to my novella. Yeah. For some reason my biggest writing project right now is in...my least active world. Funny how that worked out, huh? Unfortunately, as manuscripts don't count for WorldEmber, I can't make a new chapter of the novella part of this month's efforts.
I will also need to fight the urge to do a major CSS overhaul as I write in the world this WorldEmber. I need to upgrade all of my worlds to BS5 soon, and Umqwam is the oldest un-upgraded one— and thus, the one that needs the most facelifting.
Best of luck to you too!
