Red Mark

Affected individuals are called Bearers of Red.   This Mark is associated with The Stranger of Light: Nilume.

Symptoms

The mark of fury and the beast blood. This mark enhances a person’s reflexes and reduces their perception of pain.   The downside of power use is that, while the individual is under the effects of their power in this state, they feel uninhibited. They are more likely to give in to impulses that harm their social standing or even put themselves at risk. That is why it is best used when a person can control the intensity of the ability, or, in desperation as a last resort.   The hair of Bearer’s of Red take on a light red discoloration after puberty. Many people dye their hair to prevent this from being noticeable. Even those who don’t have the Red Mark will dye red hair some other color.

Affected Groups

More common in Cartemi.

History

The Shaden believe this condition is linked to the Stranger of Light, Nilume.
Theocracy Military Experimentation:
Fera is a formerly indoctrinated Theocracy soldier. She was a part of a special program that sought to use the Marked who believed with all their beings in the Shrouded Covenant in human experimentation to create powerful soldiers. Unbeknownst to them, they were to be treated like they have a holy mission but fitted with a kill switch held in the hands of their commanding officer.

Cultural Reception

In Covenant faith, those bearing the Mark of Red are believed to be tainted by the influence of Nilume, infused with a vigorous facet of the very light the faithful must strive to avoid.   Bearers of Red must work even harder to pray to Nosk for purity. They must also imitate the actions of Arbe as she patiently upholds the Hexaline directives, never surrendering to flights of hasty action.
