Tears

Tears are mysterious, interdimensional warps that can appear spontaniously; without warning. They are rips in space-time that can transfer those who travel into them between worlds, though where you can end up if you were to wander into a tear is unknown. They began to manifest after the occurence of The Bloom, though there has been speculation that Tears appeared very rarely before then.

Manifestation

What causes Tears to appear is not entirely known. Despite efforts to research Tears, the conditions for a Tear's manifestation appears to be entirely random. What is known, however, is that one can keep a Tear open by feeding it with Mana; either intentionally or naturally. Unfortunately, when a Tear occurs in an area that is filled with an immense amount of Mana, it will continually grow in size until either the Mana is completely absorbed by the Tear or removed from the area.

Observation of a Tear shows a black, ink-like void that one cannot hope to see through. Traveling through a Tear has brought humans and other animals to other worlds, oftentimes in a position that would make it difficult for them to enter the Tear again. Radio and wireless electronic feeds are unable to traverse through a Tear, however, it's possible to send drone footage through a Tear while it's connected to a cable. When a Tear is large enough, it will begin to distrupt electrical currents, resulting in unprotected video feeds becoming corrupted, as well as most forms of digital data.

Warp Storms occur due to the manifestation of Tears within heavy weather formations, such as Tropical Storms, Hurricanes or Purple Haze. These have heavy effects on the natural world, which has resulted in people becoming misplaced all across the globe.

Notable Tear Events

President Nearly Gone

After the manifestation of Tears began in the early 1900s, a notable event occurred in the United Kingdom of Great Britain where a Tear formed behind the king of Britain at the time, King Edward VII, during a meeting between world leaders. Although he managed to avoid being sucked into the Tear, the incident had gained worldwide notoriety and brought awareness to the issue of Tears.

Philadelphia Experiment

As part of the United States' Government's attempt to weaponize and make use of Tears, the USS Eldridge was equipped with state-of-the-art magic-based technology making intense usage of Mana-Electricity Conversion and Entropic Rewiring Tech; all with a purpose to force a Tear to appear. Once it appeared, the USS Eldridge would travel through it and then; if it had all gone to plan, would traverse from Philadelphia to New York.

Unfortunately, while that part of the experiment succeeded, the journey itself was a disaster. 90% of the crew were discovered to have merged into the hull of the ship, their skin transmutated into metal. The crew would scream the entire time, with any attempt to remove the crew from the metal being met with the expulsion of an unknown; parasitic species that; when it comes into contact with a living thing, will merge them into the metal as well. The surviving crew would report that the ship travelled between different worlds, including a nightmarish realm of which the metal-transmutating parasites came from.

The ship was eventually sunk into the bottom of the sea, with another ship replacing it shortly afterward. None of this would be discovered until the CIA Black-Or-White Hacks resulted in the information on the experiment being leaked online. It is said that the transmutated crew is still alive, though no one has been able to go down below the ocean and check.

Iceland Tragedy

On 2013, July 20th, a massive Tear formed below the continent of Iceland. Due to the size and force from the Tear, it transported an estimated 23% of landmass into other unknown worlds before the Tear disappeared almost as soon as it arrived. Around 22% landmass afterward would be submerged underwater before the tragedy ended.

Southeast Asia Disaster

On May 23rd, 2014; a massive Warp Storm would occur over Vietnam after a massive Tear spontaneously formed in the midst of two typhoons that were developing in the ocean near the country. On that day, the world got a taste of what happens when two Warp Storms collide, as shortly after forming; both of the storms would make contact with each other over Vietnam. What followed was a massive and heavy storm that would devastate most of Southeast Asia.

The Warp Storm remained over Vietnam before it suddenly began to grow in size, it's reach expanding over the countries of Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and select regions within Myanmar. By the time the storm died down on June 26th, the casualties were in the millions and most of the aforementioned countries, including large parts of Vietnam; were floating via unknown means in the sky. Relief efforts were made to help those in the affected areas from all over the world; most of which went into rescuing people whom were stranded on the floating islands. The islands remain floating over parts of China and India to this day.
