Green Snake Kobold Clan Ethnicity in Niya-Yur | World Anvil

Green Snake Kobold Clan

With a total population of roughly 20,000, the Kobold tribe of Mahndassa has kept mostly to itself. Very few people even know of the tribe's existence.   The great chieftess Boilface Pebblefoot consulted with the Mahndassa oracle Bugeye Mudhead when the tribe first set foot on Niya-Yur. Bugeye Mudhead cast her bones, spread the spider blood on her face, and rolled in the tribe's collected excrement for days before having a vision of intense power. In it, she knew that one day a great trail would come and a foreign creature would reveal a new path for all kobolds. The tribe of Mahndassa had but to wait and prepare themselves for the trials.   Boilface Pebblefoot was so moved by Bugeye Mudhead's vision she ran without weapons into the mountains and was not seen for three years. Bugeye Mudhead kept the tribe together hunting and performing the old rituals to the lost goddess as the other kobold tribes left on the ships and roads the great races provided to take people to their new settlements. Bugeye Mudhead refused all offers of help and transport.   Boilface Pebblefoot returned slim yet healthy and she carried a great snake she'd met claiming the snake was a totem for all Mahndassa kobolds. With absolute certainty and under the direction of the great python Boilface Pebblefoot lead her tribe away. They struggled for years until at last, they came to a secret area of the vast Spornusa Swamps at the far eastern edge near the Darian Ocean. In this fresh and saltwater marshland, they built a village.   Known to a few traders as the Green Snake Kobold Clan, the tribe of Mahndassa learned to live in the harsh and unforgiving marshes. Their villages are widely distributed across the deep sea marshes at the far eastern edge of Aelargo. They are isolated from almost every other sentient race. They trade with the infrequent passing merchant ships that manage to make landfall nearby. There are no major settlements or other landmarks along the hundred miles span of marshes in which the Green Snakes make their tribal home.   In spite of the relatively isolated and unremarkable area, the tribe has managed to create a unique Kobold society. They live under a long-established matriarchy that proudly traces their lineage back to Boilface Pebblefoot. There is a sect of warlocks or sorcerers who are all descendants of the great Oracle Bugeye Mudhead. In any settlement of the Green Snake Kobolds, there will be a priest or priestess of the Sect of The Coming Snake.   The communities are generally 450 to 600 people in size. Each area produces something unique to the area. Many of the products are truly unique to the Green Snakes and have made it out into the world although no one except for the one or two clever merchants know of the source.   All of the Green Snakes are waiting for the great challenge. It is something they both desire and fear. All they know is that the tribe will be tested and if it is found to be worthy, a powerful change will come to all kobolds with the Green Snake Tribe as leaders of the new way.
