Kharab Geographic Location in Misremembered Realms | World Anvil

Kharab

Also known as the Dust Highlands, the region of Kharab is a magic blighted land. Most of the land is inhospitable to all life except for what little has adapted to the magical fluctuations there. It is barren of any mundane plant or animal life and that is only one of the obstacles to surviving a trek through the lands.
Most of the time, magic there is very weak and all but the most powerful spells fail entirely. Even a sufficiently strong spell will have it's effects much reduced when cast there. It has frequent magical storms that have unpredictable effects. They are charged with so much magical energy that spells which normally wouldn't work at all, can be used, however, they nearly always have a result other than intended.

Geography

The barren land is crisscrossed by rivers which are unsafe to drink from. The topography is one of mountainous highland regions and lowland valleys and lakes. The geology is almost completely rocks and sand which range in color from every shade of gray, to blacks and purples.

Ecosystem

Little is known about the ecosystem in the region of Kharab. It is mostly thought to be completely barren with the Xanida trees being the exeption.

Localized Phenomena

Magical storms which cause unpredictable effects similar to the wild magic of some sorcerers, but on a much much larger scale.
Other than when the occasional storm is passing through, magic below a certain power fails entirely, and more powerful magic is significantly dampened.

Fauna & Flora

There are no known fauna native to the region, and the only known flora are the Xanida trees and Shengi fruit.

Natural Resources

The various parts of the Xanida trees are used for magical purposes. New properties are still being discovered.

History

It is wildly believed that the region of Kharab is the location of some great last battle between the gods, and the state of the land is a result of the massive amounts of magic they must have used, and powerful destructive magic they fought with, draining the land and scaring it forever after.
