Kein Lofano

Kein Lofano is a researcher within the Umbragolde guild of Aurel, with a specialization in architecture and civic planning.

Scholar of the Cityscape

Intrigued by architecture and civil engineering, Kein spent his years prior to becoming a recruit of Umbragolde in the academies of Aurel studying the structures making up the city. At first, he was contracted to create several blueprints of public spaces for the guild, which gradually shifted into spaces less public, and finally intricate spaces closed to the public. His ability to navigate and evaluate structures throughout the city made him a strong candidate for guild membership.

Unearthing the Ruined District

This researcher led several investigations into mysterious structures which appear throughout the ruins of Aurel. These investigations once ran smoothly, but grew exceptionally complicated with the Alabaster Hand's rise to power. In this power shift, ruins of the city were deemed off limits for any and all study and academic use, relegated only to be ramshackle homes for those they saw unfit to reside in the city proper.

Eye of the Guild

The Alabaster Hand banned the investigations which were already underway, on pain of arrest and harsh interrogations. Following these bans, which sparked a sudden vested interest in the ruins among the Umbragolde guild, new efforts were made to continue these investigations under the nose of the Alabaster Hand. Kein's existing penchant for venturing into the open and going unnoticed was a boon in the initial stages of pursuing this task, but even stealth ceased to be sufficient in the long term.
So began a long chain of experiments in tracking guard shifts, setting up residences within the ruins with false identities, and more tactics which may get the researchers closer to the ruins without attracting the Hand's ire.
Kein's investigations are ongoing, with mixed success.

Scholars of Antiquity

Kein Lofano devoted much of his study at the academies to historical sites dating back to the times of the Antecedents. Seen as marvels of technology, it is believed that many of the structures and materials at their disposal could not be man-made, at the very least not with resources available in the present day. All efforts to recreate Antecedent architecture have failed spectacularly.

These ruins will tell us more about our present than you may ever come to know, my friend.

Silent Parchment

Even before becoming a member of the Umbragolde guild, it was already in Kein's nature to work out of the sight of others. Kein excels in keeping his work under wraps, keeping his secrets even from members of his own guild — though not with malicious intent.
This reserved nature, combined with his knowledge of infrastructure and architecture, especially within Aurel itself, made him an unmatched and very powerful asset to the guild.
