Seek a new dawn, in Malkora!

Aurel

Silver and gold, crumbling and old,   When did our autumns become so cold?
— Watching the Time Pass By
Aurel is the capitol city of the Kingdom of Arsavela, home to the Savelan boharin population, and crown of the autumn lands.

The Gilded State

Overlooking the lands of Arsavela, Aurel acts as both a city and a nation-state in and of itself and governs this agricultural wonder, albeit loosely. It leaves much of the governance to the prestigious farming families which reside and work the lands below.

The City of Silver and Gold

Aurel is often known to others as the city of silver and gold, as a nod to its opulent cathedrals and royal grounds, which have regrettably begun to see some degree of ruin following the deposition of the monarchy.   Once ruled by the Arsaces Monarchy, a religious organization known as The Alabaster Hand wrested bloody control of the throne, backed by accusations against the crown of conspiring with dark forces.

Pure Devotion

Now a holy bastion for the god Atreimus, the Purifier, the city is a less welcoming place than it once used to be. The people were treated far better under the Arsaces rule, as the Alabaster Hand has shown little interest in the qualms of the common man.   Even as ruin sweeps southern Arsavela, the powers which now sit atop Aurel's throne are quick to wave away concerns and leave the people to manage their own fates without aid or even acknowledgment.
Ancient Cityscapes
The Kingdom of Arsavela as a whole is the oldest of Malkora's lands, seeing no changes from the leylines from the final days of the Nameless Age. Because of this, many of its cities and settlements are built from the ruins left behind by the Antecedents who once made the lands their home.   Aurel still contains entire sections of the city which are comprised solely of ruins, with no further development, leaving ample opportunity for study of the past — that is, if such a thing were permitted by the Alabaster Hand.

Frigid Affairs
Very little travel comes through Aurel, its only regular visitors being those who come from Uris Braena, as the mountains separating Arsavela from the rest of Nefyran make for a challenging journey in or out of the region. Ships which come by sea typically hail from Undmar, and rarely from Vynarsa. The ports to the north of Aurel see trade from some of the northern lands, though these contacts have become fewer and fewer with each passing year.   With the reduced friendliness and recent border closures, travel into Arsavela as a whole has been slashed, leaving the region more isolated than ever before.
