Seek a new dawn, in Malkora!

Great Crossing

The treacherous passage connecting the Holy Front, crumbling faster than it can be upkept.

I really shouldn't have looked down. They had to drag me, kicking and screaming, across the whole way.   Made it across just fine, but it was embarassing enough that I ought to have fallen off, if I'm honest.
— Vynari pilgrim
The Great Crossing divides Vynarsa in two, overlooking the jagged channel which connects the eastern and western seas in Central Nefyran.

Connecting the Lands

Partially natural in its structure, the Great Crossing appears only partially man-made. Crooked stonework connects gaps in the natural stone formations which loom high above the channel and the jagged cliffs it runs between.
Ruined supports and adjacent structures surround the Crossing, crumbling away with the passage of time. There may well have been a time in Malkora's past where the Great Crossing was a marvel of human architecture and advancement, but the craftsmanship of eld had long fallen away from what remains in its place today.

Long Way Down

Many names have been given to the Great Crossing over its many years of use — Heaven's Bridge, Stonecut Cross, among others. The most telling is Seafall Pass, which tells the tale of the many losses attributed to careless travelers or horrific accidents, which send its visitors plummeting into the channel below.   If the height alone wasn't enough to cause a bitter end, the stones below would make quick work of what life remained.

Guiding Hands

With its known dangers, and the trouble many appear to have in making a safe crossing, the Church of Dawn regularly posts its Dawnwardens at either end of the Crossing, to offer escorts to the less experienced traveler.   The Dawnwardens' involvement became more common as casualties appeared to increase dramatically over time, prompting the Church to believe that bad actors were beginning to take advantage of the Crossing's dangerous reputation to further their own ends.

Splitting the Holy Front
The land of Vynarsa is known to many as the "Holy Front," being the bastion of the Church of Dawn, and housing its most strongly devoted.   Pilgrims from settlements such as Eletta are regularly made to cross the Great Crossing to reach the Ivory Sanctum, who do so in spite of the apparent dangers of the landmark.
Dreaded Upkeep
Volunteers for the maintenance of the Great Crossing are hard to come by, though somehow worker casualties are far fewer than lost travelers.   Workers claim that prayers and precautions keep them safe; there are, however, several memorials scattered across the bridge remembering those craftsmen lost to the channel below.
