Vy'mar

Charming Predators of the Middling Courts

The Vy'mar are a race of predacious humanoids that feed off the bodily fluids of their prey - the Vy'mar enjoy the process of selection & predation of their selected hunt. Renowned for their wit & charisma, the Vy'mar voluntarily brought their racial council into The Grand Courts during the second age, and have maneuvered themselves into the heart of the aristocracy.   Having never been closely tied in geography, the Vy'mar were dispersed widely throughout the territories of Tawdrii, but following their incorporation into the courts, quickly made their homes in the heart of the courts' influence. Deeply involved in each step of The Grand Courts, the seemingly bottomless wellspring of charm that the Vy'mar call forward has given them a reputation among the nobility as capable Commissioners, Speakers & Heralds.

Picky Eaters

The Vy'mar are notoriously selective about their food & will only feed when they know where their food came from; so dedicated are the Vy'mar that most will prefer to choose & bind to prey they themselves have selected, stalked & predated. This has lead to their reputation as silver-tongued courtiers and hustlers among the Tawdriian populace; a fact that certainly hasn't hampered their success.

Vicious Authoritarians

Deeply dedicated to the laws of the world, the Vy'mar are some of the most passionate of the races in the enforcement of the rule of law. The slightest aberration upon the lawfulness of the world is likely to leave a tick on their well-dressed shoulder; an openly criminal act is expected to bring outright wrath & hostility to the surface of even the most well-mannered of Vy'mar.

Capable Fighters

The Vy'mar may not be gifted the innate natural gifts & magical prowess of other races, but generations of Feuds between the ingrained aristocratic families of the The Court Sanguinis before their incorporation into The Grand Courts have lead to the Vy'mar's development of a vast arrangement of military & martial capabilities.   Often, the Vy'mar do not fight alone, leaning upon their more significant numbers, enterprising reach & influence within the noble families to call forth superior forces than their foes. On an individual level, the Vy'mar are more than capable of manifesting Werks to defend themselves, and will harness Willpower to enhance their speed, strength & senses; but are incapable of enhancing their informational processing, making them much less effective with these capabilities than other races.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Vy'mar are mostly physically identical to any Human but sport more resilient nails, hair & skin than the average human - a fact that the Vy'mar make use of by way of sharpening their nails into talon-like points, often used to draw blood.

Biological Traits

The Vy'mar have two distinct genders; Male & Female   The Male subject of the species is the slightly larger & more physically robust of the two genders and is less belligerent or aggressive in their general attitude.   The Female subject of the species is more minute & less physically robust than their male counterpart, but are notably faster, and show much greater belligerence & aggression.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Vy'mar reproduce in an sexual, identical fashion to Human Kind, and take cult-like pride in their performance. They are reproductively compatible with almost all humanoid races, provided they are physically compatible. The offspring have a 30% chance of being born Vy'mar unless otherwise stated - this likelihood increases exponentially the longer a Vy'mar has a feeding bond with their reproductive partner.

Growth Rate & Stages

Vy'mar take approximately nineteen years from the date of their birth to reach adulthood - this period varies based on a multitude of factors including but not limited to;
  • Diet
  • Family Genetics
  • Gender

Ecology and Habitats

The Vy'mar prefer colder, less temperate environments, but can settle in most places that Human Kind may habitate; as well as some they cannot. Vy'mar do not suffer from hypothermia or any other form of regular low-temperature induced environmental hazards, capable of thermo-regulation that keeps their skin at a minimum 41°C (106°F) at temperatures as low as -98°C (-144°F), and can survive - albeit uncomfortably - sustained temperatures as low as -114°C (-173°F).

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Vy'mar feed off the blood & bodily fluids of their prey; this can take the form of exsanguination or succubation. Often, Vy'mar prefer to form bonds with their prey - feeding regularly from carefully selected hosts while forming a somewhat protective guardianship what they see as theirs. It is not uncommon for Vy'mar to feud over their possessiveness of their prey, and they are not ones to share.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The Vy'mar rank their social structure based on an ancient tradition of hereditary superiority, where those families with the longest-running bloodlines & deepest relationships with the nobility of the world are placed high on the pedestal of their social order.

Facial characteristics

The Vy'mar feature a wider spectrum of eye colors than the average Human; but suffer from a feeding flush.   FEEDING FLUSH:
  • After feeding, for up to an hour afterward:
    • Eye color will shift to Silver.
    • Skin will flush with a pale pink hue.
    • Black vein-like sub-cutaneous patterns develop around the eyes & heart.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Vy'mar are capable of greater insight than the average human, and can more adequately feel the flow of energy around them as an electric-like sensation - though they are mostly incapable of identifying what kind of energy may be causing the sensation, they are more than capable of identifying the intensity of the energy.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

The Vy'mar are in a consistent symbiotic relationship with almost all Kindred, as well as all Humanity and most species of Fauna on both Tawdrii and Earth.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The Vy'mar are the founding race & chief representatives of the The Court Sanguinis, one of the most deeply-rooted & authoritarian of courts within the The Grand Courts Of Tawdrii.

Beauty Ideals

The Vy'mar have a vast spectrum of beauty ideals, and their preference towards particular features varies wildly between different geographies, families & individuals.

Gender Ideals

The Vy'mar have rather loose gender ideals, but typically stick to a few guiding principals.
  • The Female counterpart is often encouraged into military or political professions.
  • The Male counterpart is often encouraged into magical or educational professions.

Courtship Ideals

The Vy'mar are incredibly persistent, almost obsessive when they set their eyes on an individual they wish to court into a bond. Generally, they will take upon them every opportunity to pursue ANY legal means of courting the object of their interests.

Relationship Ideals

The Vy'mar believe in undying loyalty and will often mark those they bond with by some means; the most common of which is a tattoo of an individual's name, sigil or other identifying mark in a noticeable area such as the neck, wrist, palm, arm or anywhere that the Vy'mar believe may be seen by others.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Vy'mar have a language shared among them with two unique dialects - these dialects are compatible, but not interchangeable.

Common Dress Code

The Vy'mar believe in dressing to kill - literally; as appearance & charm are their foremost social strengths, the Vy'mar believe in equipping themselves "that even the most fearful may fall prey" - and argue that to be laissez faire about your appearance is no less than hamstringing your own self.
  • The Vy'mar are incredibly vain about their own appearance & meeting their own beauty ideals.
  • Vy'mar will often refuse to leave their abode or the company of close companions without being dressed to kill.
  • The Vy'mar will never go entirely without adornments, and will never willingly strip themselves of all clothing, accessories & flourishes.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

The Vy'mar insist on a night-kiss to mark celebratory occasions between families, factions or individuals; a celebratory feeding they believe is the only proper way to show goodwill in celebration.
  • This act can be impersonal, or incredibly intimate.
  • The individuals engaged do not need to be specific, as long as they are associated in the celebration.
  • The feeding can be of any form and does not need to necessarily sustain the Vy'mar.

Common Taboos

The Vy'mar frown upon any form of racial cannibalism and most will be thrown into a toss should the subject be brought up; much less their wrath should they observe it. Additionally, The Court Sanguinis as well as most Vy'mar are advocates for most any legislation or cultural influence that outlaws or dissuades nudity in public.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Vy'mar generally have great trust through all Kindred, and are actively pursuing warm relations with Humanity, but are widely distrusted & feared by most of the latter... some other Humanity seem rather taken with this new arrival.
