Rua'kiin

The Foundation of Order

The Rua'kiin are the original foundation of The Grand Courts, a race dedicated to the pursuit of balance in all things. Devoted chiefly to study of the arcane & the ministration of the edicts that govern the territories that the Courts oversee. The Rua'kiin are fierce protectors of public knowledge, and most actively work to bring all secrets to light for the good of all Kindred, serving as Oracles or Luminants for the Sentinels or the Order of the Illuminated.

An Long & Laborious Life

Dedicated to balance & order, the Rua'kiin are often found at odds with their long lifespan - always in a struggle to ensure that their actions always maintain the balance of things. A killer must also bring life into the world - and every mother must also eventually be a killer, for every fate brought into the world, another must find its fate cut short. Because of this arduous, endless subscription to a tenet of balance, a Rua'kiin may find their long life to be a gift or a hell.

Capable Weavers

Rua'kiin Weaving is some of the most extravagant & sought after throughout the world. So capable are the Rua'kiin in their werking of strands that theirs are the Edicts that govern all of Tawdrii & enforce the will of the Grand Courts. The magical capabilities of the Rua'kiin do not end at their Weaving, but extend into multiple other categories of Werks & Rituals.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Rua'kiin are generally taller than the average Human and feature tall, pointed ears.

Biological Traits

The Male subject of the Rua'kiin are generally the stronger & more resilient of the two genders but are far fewer in number (~22% of total population) than their counterparts.   The Female subject of the Rua'kiin are more dexterous & agile by a wide margin when compared to their male counterparts, able to quickly & easily vault over barriers twice their height, or scale sheer cliff faces with little effort.   The Avitype subject of the Rua'kiin is an extinct subspecies.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Rua'kiin can reproduce with most races so long as they are humanoid and reproductively compatible, and unless otherwise stated always have a 70% chance of the offspring being born Rua'kiin, and 30% chance of the offspring being born as another race.

Growth Rate & Stages

Rua'kiin take approximately thirty-two years from the date of their birth to reach adulthood - this period varies based on a multitude of factors including but not limited to;
  • Diet
  • Family Genetics
  • Gender

Ecology and Habitats

The Rua'kin are accustomed to temperate locales in the range of 12 - 27°C (54 - 81°F) but can adapt quite easily to fit into almost any environment. Capable of amazing feats of thermoregulation through the use of magic, Rua'kin can raise or lower their body temperature to adapt to their surroundings with minimal effort.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Rua'kin eat a mostly vegetarian diet, augmented with dairy & animal products, as a result of their dedication to balance - a dedication that is easily up-kept when feasting on plants. Only on rare, celebratory occasions will a Rua'kin eat any animal meat - and when they do, they will always do the utmost to ensure that the animal was treated with respect.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Rua'kiin society widely favors males over females - besides this, their social structure is entirely based off age and profession:
  1. Elders, Scholars & Teachers
  2. Nobles, Weavers & Noble Guard
  3. Healers, Architects & Inquisitors
  4. Builders, Inventors & Engineers
  5. Farmers, Merchants, Soldiers
  6. The unemployed & the young

Facial characteristics

Rua'kiin feature eyes with incredibly vibrant & bright colors as well as tall, pointed ears that they often adorn with piercings, colorations & metal decorations.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Rua'kiin were easily found all across Tawdrii but are more often settled near coastlines & along rivers in temperate forested areas. Upon their emergence on Earth, the Rua'kiin have found themselves scattered across the continents - but still find forests & rivers a magnetic force to their settlement.

Average Intelligence

The Rua'kiin are of rather extraordinary intelligence and use this to their advantage in many arenas of application. Gifted with excellent natural insight into Werking & Rituals, the Rua'kiin use these to weave magic into living & ordinary things.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Rua'kiin have notably better hearing than the average Human - capable of clearly listening to a conversation from across a crowded room with little effort.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

The Rua'kiin are represented directly on the Grand Courts, as the original founders of the courts & devout believers of balance they do not question the governance of the courts, but instead enact & enable them in their entirety.

Beauty Ideals

The Rua'kiin favor purity and thus believe in unmodified, unspoiled beauty - often, this means that the Rua'kiin will fervently defend the beauty of any & all subjects so long as they have not been needlessly modified.

Gender Ideals

Males are expected to take a more active role within the scholarly or political practices of society. They often find themselves serving as Archivists, Oracles or Patriarchs in the world.   Females are considered to be the caretakers, guardians & workhorses of Rua'kiin society, but it is not uncommon to find them employed as Oracles or participating in the scholarly explorations of the Illuminated.

Courtship Ideals

The Rua'kiin are notoriously prolific & promiscuous, courting any subject of their interest without shame.
  • Rua'kiin are not above using magic to influence a subject of interest.
  • Rua'kiin society actively promotes the use of mind-altering potions & substances in the pursuit of romance.
  • Rua'kiin will never kidnap or assault a subject without their explicit consent.
As a rule, the Rua'kiin are incredibly civil & prefer their courtship to have an air of elegance - but are comfortable with even the most devious or taboo of courtship rituals given that all parties are consenting - caring only about the purity & balance of the act.

Relationship Ideals

Rua'kiin frown upon lifelong or monogamous relationships - a result of the biological inconsistency between the birth rates of both male & female specimens of their race. The ideal Rua'kiin relationship is often framed as being no relationship at all with both counterparts going their separate ways after their respective needs for the bond are fulfilled.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Rua'kiin generally maintain excellent relationships with most races, striving to maintain a level of balance that most nations, races & organizations have a mutual respect for.
