Gingerbear Hide

Red and Royal

Oh hey, It's the Grand Elder, and he's a pompous prick again. Why does he always have to wear that red stuff? It's like he's intentionally trying to piss off all the poor folk.
— Ithel beggar

Gingerbear hide is a dark red material used for making clothes, satchels, quivers, and plenty of other stuff. As the bears are rare, the material is generally reserved for only the wealthy. The hides are slightly heavier than of those of regular bears, but they also keep the wearer warm during the harshest of winters. The members of House Sarap proudly display their Gingerbear hide clothes and accessories, and to a lesser degree, so do the leaders of Ithelmark.

Royal Red

Gingerbear hides became a symbol for the Käruli monarchy soon after the Kingdom of Sarala was founded. As the royal family was able to afford the rare material, the colour of the hides became associated with royalty, power, and strength. Even after the kingdom accepted their new Nehenian overlords in the Imperium of Qerthéllnaval, the colour was still special to the Saralians. In recent times the colour blue has started to take on the same symbolic meaning, but Gingerbear red has remained prevalent.
