Edmund Horvasse Character in The Works of Johannes T. Evans | World Anvil

Edmund Horvasse

Was once a record-keeping angel, and has revolutionised the study of demonic sciences – big on entomological-style mounting of insectile demons in cases like bugs, but pretty much every demon is scared of him.   Horvasse is a prim man who likes Everything In Its Place, and is very strict about that. He employs a household staff of several fae, and in general sees angels as superior to their other dimensional counterparts – to fae and to demons especially, although he does believe a certain allowance has to be made for humanity.   He is a hugely well-respected figure in the field of demonic biology, and is responsible for basically all modern understanding of demonic biology and taxonomy, having come to earth in the late 1700s and started as a biologist before taking an interest in entomology, and then branching off in order to focus on demons.   Demons did not have full protections under the law of King Arthur’s kingdom and the surrounding countries until the 1980s, when progress was made in terms of demons being seen as living creatures that were sapient and capable of making their own choices – before they were seen as relatively bestial, feeding off of chaos and sapping life energy from others.   The same strides were made by fae much earlier in the 20th century, but only because they were able to lobby from their own kingdoms and be able to put pressure on the other magical states in the prime dimension: demonic forms of organisation tend to be entirely decentralised, without leaders, bc of the demonic propensity for hive minds and shared consciousnesses.   Edmund Horvasse has full on killed and mounted so many demons in his lifetime, and his home and offices are decorated with an array of mounted corpses.   For understandable reasons, most demons find him fucking terrifying, although many medical professionals hold his work in high regard because it has done so much to allow jumps in demonic healthcare, especially because it is so unresearched compared to fae and other magical biology.
