Aimé Deverell Character in The Works of Johannes T. Evans | World Anvil

Aimé Deverell

Aimé Deverell was born the only child of Luc Deverell, the founder and CEO of Runic Security Solutions Ltd, and Bebhin Margaret Downe, a corporate lawyer, in March of 1993.   Aimé was always a bright and friendly child, inquisitive to a fault, and although he was a short boy, never tended to team sports, he began to box at the age of ten or eleven. He pursued all manner of art throughout his childhood and as he grew into a teenager, which is father never particularly approved of.   As Aimé came into his teen years, he began to struggle more with mood swings and his mental health, and began to withdraw significantly from the various extracurricular art clubs he had been involved with, as well as drawing back from everything except boxing, which he pursued only semi-regularly. Aimé's increasing difficulties coincided with his parents' decreasing moods following the end of the Celtic Tiger, and he began to act out more at his boarding school, although not sufficiently to be expelled.   Aimé took a year out before attending university, which he spent working on his maternal grandmother's vineyard in the south of France, and he had wanted to stay there instead of returning to Ireland, but at his father's insistence, he returned in order to attend Maynooth University to study law. Aimé began to drink far more in order to better cope with his depression, and began to pursue boxing far more fervently, often boxing in private and underground clubs for ridiculously expensive bets, and he was hospitalised several times as a young adult.   At the age of 23, the summer before his final year at Maynooth, he attempted suicide, but was discovered by the caretaker in his apartment building when his cigarettes in the other room set off a small fire sufficient to trigger the smoke alarm. He spent several months back in Montauban, before coming to an agreement with his father that he had to complete at least a degree before he could work on the vineyard full time.   He then began to read Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin: his grandmother died a year into this degree, followed by the sudden death of an aunt and two cousins in a car crash, and the vineyard in Montauban was subsequently sold.   Aimé, at 27, met Jean-Pierre Delacroix, and - as so many young men before him - began to let his world revolve around the angel, instead of anything else.
