Black Steel
The Dark Celestial Metal
Chanting echoes around the cavern as figures in black hoods enchant the item in the circle, the black metal glinting as it takes the magic of their enchantment. Nothing good could come from such a casting, a dark circle written in dark languages, words spoken in tongues that do not often leave the darkest corners of the world. The item in the center, crudely forged by the hands of one inept, slowly glows with an unholy light. Only one such metal would take such a curse.
Black Steel is one of the special metals in Isekai but is often associated with the darkest things. Referred to as one of the Celestial Metals, the black colors of this metal make it seem more like obsidian instead of an actual metal. While commonly used in a variety of items, nefarious purposes are a common use of the metal. It is a difficult stereotype to pull away from, but the metal and its properties lend themselves to the stereotype.
Those that handle this metal must take care not to touch the metal with bare skin or anything else made of organic material as constant contact with the metal will eventually begin to rot anything organic. Gloves, tools, and other precautions are a necessity with this metal.
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
Items created using Black Steel are often used by servants of darkness or are cursed items, causing many to be fearful or superstitious when working with the metal. These fears may be warranted due to the power that Black Steel has once refined, including harnessing dark energy, rotting or withering items that are in constant contact, or leaving wounds that are very difficult to treat without certain magic.
Weapons and armor created with Black Steel have a variety of effects, often extremely dangerous to both user and those being injured. Precautions are necessary for any that wish to wield or wear weapons, armor, or any other items made from this metal.
Geology & Geography
Black Steel is rather rare, only being found in a limited number of areas. Commonly, this metal can be found in Káto, cursed grounds, and the Fire Islands. A steady supply of the metal is extremely difficult to come by.
