Magic rot is a condition that only dragons have.
History
The scholars haven't found many mentions of the condition in the old documents, but after questioning the ancients they have learned that the condition has always existed, at least for as long as they have been alive and it has been moderately common. The condition has started to become even more and more common during the last 100 years.
Transmission
Scholars say that dragons are born with this disease. As it does not appear to be spread among other dragons when a dragon who has the condition interacts with them. It runs in families but dragons who don't' have it in their family can still be born with it. The condition becomes apparent when the dragon is around 20-30 years old.
Symptoms
The dragon will at first not be able to use their infrared vision. This is not something that regular dragons in villages use very often so it might not be noticed. However, those who have magic rot in their family usually am more observant about it.
After the infrared vision has disappeared the area of the dragon's sense of other beings will become smaller and smaller until the dragon won't be able to sense other creatures either.
The ability of the dragon to change between their two forms will become harder to use.
Treatment
There is no treatment for the condition or any help that can be given to somebody that suffers from it. There are eyeglasses for those who get visual impairments, wheelchairs and other aids for those who get other disabilities.
Prognosis
For some, the ability to transform between the two forms will completely disappear but most dragons will be able to change between their forms with effort. The dragons will become weak and easily become sick or hurt themselves. Many of the dragons with Magic rot get an impaired vision or other disabilities.
The Scholars
Since a possible ancient was born to a dragon with late-stage magic rot, the scholars have been in a frenzy. They would like to be able to do some studies on this subject.
