Hydrogen Material in Fillimet | World Anvil

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a tasteless, odorless, colorless, but explosive gas best know for its use as a fuel by the Fillimet Magical Archives. Hydrogen is most easily obtained through use of a biomicrokineticized bacteria.

History & Usage

Refinement

The Fillimet Magical Archives refines Hydrogen from their Natural Gas. Upon discovery that the hydrogen within the gas was a more potent fuel than the gas itself they commissioned the specialized hydrogenic bacteria B. archivid, which consumes liquefied natural gas and emits hydrogen in a high-pressure oxygen-free environment.   Hydrogen is carefully syphoned from the tanks on a monthly basis. The tank is split in half horizontally with a pressurized door, then the top half is unpressurized to allow the gas to enter a separate chamber. Here is it slowly cooled until any present natural gas liquifies again. The natural gas is then drained for reuse leaving only the hydrogen behind.   Due to the slow growth of the hydrogenic bacteria, the risk of accidents due to the pressurized containment, and the explosive nature of the gas itself, the Archive maintains multiple B. archivid tanks around Martoka Island, and no two tanks are harvested on the same day.
