Missive to Baba Yaga from Abigail Lawson on the eve of disaster

Dearest Baba Yaga   It is with great trepidation that I pen this missive. Events are moving much faster than we feared as Wyrden gains control of more and more the power centres of our beloved Broceliande. I know you warned me of this some decades ago, but I did not see the troubles so clearly as I do now that they are almost upon us.   I fear that we have been lax within the library, focusing on educating the next generation, but have ignored the gradual concentration of power and wealth. These powerful entities lobby even our students, claiming that we cannot keep them safe. And the sad thing is they are right. We could never protect them, all we could do was make things as safe as possible, but once they run into the arms of the law-abiding demons, they will find that safety is not so safe. Not if they disagree with a single law.   Please, if you have any words of wisdom I am ready to hear them. We cannot leave it all up to those two sisters, because if they are are only hope, I believe all our hopes are dashed. I see nothing in either one to inspire confidence and can only hope you are right that their skills of sight and dreaming are what is needed now that Beloss has showed his hand with Dream City.   And of course, if you could lend your magic, then maybe, just maybe we can save Broceliande from the demons and those who wish to own the stories we write, the land beneath our feet, and the very magic of this world.   .

Purpose

As Hades' and his minion, Silvertongue's, influence spreads across all parts of Broceliande, Abigail Lawson fears for the ancient institution that is the Library of Alexandria. The rising wave of intolerance is damaging the fragile balance that allows the library to be a centre of arts, magic, learning and diplomacy and threatening the existence of the library itself. And the threats come from both inside and outside the institution, as the growing intolerance separates the Library from the people it was meant to serve.

Please note: The Library has no copies of this letter, and indeed there is much speculation that it was never written by Abigail Lawson, who strenuously denies an association with the wanted felon, Baba Yaga.
