The Wailing Wood

Tales from secluded villages just past Estalian borders tell of a foggy woodland called The Wailing Wood. The name was derived from the local legends of screams of pain and of pleasure that echo from the trees. Strange disappearances, tales of murder, cannibalism, and of debauched desires fulfilled plague the wood. Unknown to the outside world, The wailing wood is a haven for a cult of cannibalistic wood elves who live in Wailing Oaks, a servitor Race of the elven goddess Myrmidian, who has claimed the woodland as her own. Her spirit and those that serve her prowl the forest floor for unsuspecting travelers. The wood is under constant conflict as cult fights back against the monsters of the black march in their attempt to encroach on this sacred land.

Screams From The Wood

The wailing wood is a dense forest. The canopy blocks out most sunlight. The further one goes the more like a marsh it becomes until reaching the edge of The Black March. The woodland spans almost 300 square miles. Streams and creeks are the only sources of freshwater and only when not feeding from the black march in the north. Residents know never to drink for waters flowing south. Many of the flora and fauna are diseased due to proximity to the black march. This fact is only truely common as one reaches the northern border. Plants and animals are the same one would find in Estoya, however, many have been tainted or changed by the Melancholiathat plagues the region.
