The Ikaspi

The smallest polar merfolk

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
The Ikaspi are one of two merfolk groups that maintain permanent settlements in the cold waters around the southern continent of the Barren. They are the smallest of the polar merfolk, only growing to an average of around twenty feet in length.   The Ikaspi have a single mine under the Barren where they mine a stone known as viridescenite. Viridescenite is a metamorphic stone that glows when exposed to salt water and also amplifies the effects of magic. They consider viridescenite to be sacred, and most of the stone they mine gets placed in a special vault. It is used mainly for aesthetic and lighting purposes, particularly in jewellery and accents on buildings. They also use it to create tools to channel their magic, which they call focuses.
