The Denanden Pit
A coal mine

The Denanden Pit is a coal mine located in the hills of northern Dryst, just outside the town of Denanden. It is one of the oldest still active coal mines in the country, having been in operation for over half a century, and it produces several thousand tonnes of coal a year. It is currently estimated that the mine's coal reserves may be exhausted within the next five years, which could eventually lead to the death of the town.
The poisonous runoff from the mine has polluted the nearby Telly River, leading to the destruction of the delicate ecosystem of the wetlands surrounding the river's tidal estuary.
