Denanden
A mining town

Denanden is a mining town in the northern hills of Dryst, with a population of around a hundred and fifty people. Around sixty percent of the inhabitants, both men and women, are employed by the coal mine, known as the Denanden Pit. The majority of the town - and the mine itself - is owned by the Drystian Mining Concern, one of the big three mining companies whose influence in Dryst is growing with each passing year.
The town is located on the banks of the Telly, a river that is suffering from pollution caused by the poisonous runoff from the coal mine. Luckily for the town, much of the pollution is downstream.
Oh - that much of the town beholden to one company raises all sorts of red flags. How much of a company town is it? Do they control local commerce completely, like company towns in history did? Do the workers have to rent homes from the company, so losing your job means losing your house too?
That's what I'm picturing. The company wouldn't want people to be able to move too easily. People are very concerned what will happen when the coal mine is exhausted.
