Temple of the Broken God

Home of the forgotten

The Broken God's temple is located in the oldest district of the city of Athevinel, on the banks of the Gambeli river. Though not as old as the nearby temple to the Fish Mother, it has been standing for at least three and a half thousand years. Like the Fish Mother's temple, the temple of the Broken God is a squat square building made of red sandstone, and inside is a smashed altar - a slab of sandstone broken in half. Trinkets, coins, and dried flowers spill over the broken altar like a waterfall.   The actual name of the god it was once dedicated to has been lost to time, but people still occasionally visit to leave an offering to all those gods that have been long forgotten. Some people hope that their prayers might reach anyone who may be istening, whilst others confess to things that they wish to be forgotten.

I've always liked the idea of the unknown gods. Praying into the abyss in hopes that something, anything, will respond.

Me too. There's something weirdly comforting about the idea.
