Caragal
The birthplace of steam

Caragal is a large city in the country of Dryst on the continent of Sarsand, famous for being one of the founding places of steam technology and the birth place of the Drystian steamstack.
It is located at the western edge of the Gulguns, the mountain range that separates Dryst from the country of Moragul. The oldest buildings in the city are constructed of stone, but rapid expansion since the beginning of the 5290s has led to much of the newer part of the city to be built from wood and other cheaper materials.
Caragal is the first city in the world to have a railway station, and is the proud home of the first steam-powered trains. The first railway line, connecting the Caragal to the city of Rendan, was opened four years ago. Since then plans have been drawn up to install these lines throughout the country, and to ramp up the production of steam engines. Works are currently underway on the line that is to connect Caragal to the capital city of Arendal.
Rapid, cheap construction + a lot of industrial activity involving metallurgy and coal makes me wonder if they are taking adequate precautions against fires...
You know, I had the same thought...
