Purple Spined Waimana Lurker Species in Ethnis | World Anvil

Purple Spined Waimana Lurker

The Purple Spined Lurker is a species of fish native to the Waimana Valley. An ostentatious array of purple spines adorn the dorsalfins, and can shatter off on contact. The creature is a omnivorous species with a voracious appetite. It will eat anything it's capable of fitting into it's mouth, and will take a nice chunk out of anything that can not.

They are very hardy to disease, can 'walk' short distances on land and shore, and are even capable of surviving freezes or extreme heat for short periods. The fish is edible, though its flavor can vary depending on its diet. How the creatures were introduced into the recently man-made Waimana Lake, is a mystery. The fish is edible, though the flavor of the meat can vary depending on its diet.

Fishing is done by net on boat, and by harpoon on the shore. The quills make wonderful darts, as the paralytic venom can be delivered by unbroken spines.
