Talas (TAH-lahs)

Communication Device

A Tala is a small metallic gemstone inscribed with ancient symbols. These are used as communiation devices and are often intimate gifts betwen loved ones/couples as this also openes the communicators to the thoughts, emotions, and desires to the contact.   Crafted by the Scáthfear, our Dökkálfar elves, during celestial events. The workings are highly personal to the craftsman who makes it and they can accidentally be drawn to the wearer when in close proximity. The process involves taking the material and crafting it with love and sweat, a marvel of workmaship. Each Tala is an essence unto it's own and as such each has a true name. Talas are not given lightly.

The Elohim Talas

A set of special Talas were created for the Elsod with the express intention of using them to maintain contact within the council and one human in the outside world.   Imbued with intent and Magic by Toth and Hermes over centuries, the Scáthfear worked thru the night during the Great Alignment (What mortal call the year 0) when the Old ways began to wane and the new to rise. When the celestial world was in final harmony with the mortal realm.
Thoth's Contribution: The Design of Symbols and Inscriptions
  • Year/Date: 132 BCE
  • Event: The alignment of five planets, which was visible from Egypt and interpreted as a sign of divine harmony and communication.
  • Significance: Thoth, drawing upon this celestial event, designs the sacred symbols for the communication devices, infusing them with the magic of alignment and understanding.
Hermes's Contribution: The Blessing of Paths
  • Year/Date: 76 BCE
  • Event: The appearance of Halley's Comet, seen across Greece, was considered a messenger from the gods, signaling change and new beginnings.
  • Significance: Inspired by the comet, Hermes imbues the devices with his blessings for swift communication, ensuring they carry messages across realms with clarity and speed.
The Scáthfear's Craftsmanship: Forging the Amulets
  • In the year 0, a star blazed forth in the heavens, surpassing all others in its brilliance. This was no ordinary celestial body but a divine signal—the forges of the Scáthfear being ignited, marking the commencement of an extraordinary endeavor. Under the guidance of Thoth and Hermes, this year was chosen for its symbolic significance, representing a nexus point in the fabric of time, a moment when the old world and the new were in perfect balance. As the celestial forge burned bright in the sky, each necklace was crafted with meticulous care, the Scáthfear smiths channeling the celestial energies into every link and pendant. The star's light, a reflection of the forge’s flames, was a beacon of connectivity and understanding, casting its glow across all realms.
It was the hope of the Council of Gods, that their children would keep a foothold in the mortal realm. Although, with the one rule edict of not exposing their nature to mortals, only one has been given in this manner. The recipient was Morgan Berry. His distant divine ancestry has inexplicably become a loophole in the one rule. (See Forward). His Tala is named Anamchara.
