Sith Thyrsa Challenge Coins
A Sith Thyrsa Challenge Coin can be made from any coin in circulation and act as a shibboleth among the Wrecca and as a pass for refugees escaping exile. In Vinland, they are most commonly made from Susan B Anthony dollar coins and Kennedy Half Dollars so they are not confused in the pocket for common currency. On account of its similarity to a quarter, several Anthony Dollars had to be reclaimed by the Salian Order after being spent and entering circulation at legal tender.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The charm for making a challenge coin is a simple enchantment accessible to any drycraft. Permanent charms are more tricky like all everlasting effects. It normally consists of three sigils, the first opens the coin, the second sets the challenge, the third seals the charm.
Significance
Challenge coins go back into antiquity as a way for Drymenn to identify themselves to one another.
The Giants and their Heralds gave challenge coins to all the people who joined the covenant before the borders of Aernadael were established. These coins were used in the first enchantment to erect the barriers and set the penumbras for the new land. Most are housed in a place of honor in the homes and seats of government of the municipalities that initially joined the covenant. They are treated as relics of the covenant.
Some of the challenge coins used to help slaves escape are housed in Chapels of The Shame in their local shrines to remind the people they could have done more to help free people from chains, and to remained the Sith Thyrsa that even some of their own engaged in the horror of the slave trade. They are moved to the main altar for the week before and after June 19th to remind all that the purpose of the covenant is to bring freedom and that they have not always done enough to make freedom a reality.
