Calyria is one of my oldest worlds and was created with a 5e Modern implementation in mind. In the meantime, the world has been designed for WIRE, and is being developed as a cyberpunk setting for it. The goal is to use the different systems of WIRE, and to create a cyberpunk world that combines elements from well-known systems like Shadowrun and D20 Modern with my own ideas.
For myself, I would like to achieve a playable cyberpunk setting that combines the beloved elements of Shadowrun and the World of Darkness. These elements will be complemented by my own ideas and hopefully combined to create a world all my own. The primary goal is to give my players an experience that combines the “high tech, low life” of a cyberpunk world with the vampires of the World of Darkness and some elements of classic fantasy.
Calyria is primarily concerned with the question of what happens when radical philosophies and attitudes ultimately gain the upper hand. What happens to the world when the most radical feminist ideas ultimately shape the laws? What happens when radical groups decide what is acceptable in the world and what is not? And what if these groups and philosophies control the all-dominant economy?
Calyria is a Cyberpunk world, similar to Earth. It also features some aspects of Urban Fantasy and Gothic Horror.
Calyria is a dark, contrasting world. The few “good” elements shine almost unnaturally bright, which only makes the shadows seem all the deeper. Not everyone can afford morals, and even more so, they don’t want to afford them at all. Corruption and all the dark sides of humanity are omnipresent and much more pronounced than is the case on the real Earth. Radical philosophies on Calyria are even more radical. The rich are even richer, the poor are even poorer.
Calyria is a desperate, dark world. Not as fucked-up as Warhammer 40k, but dark.
The characters are only a minor cog in the enormous machine, but they can throw a lot of sand into the gears. At least temporarily. With enough effort, planning and a very long period, however, they have the possibility to bring lasting changes around.
Gender Relations: Many women still claim that the world is dominated by men. In truth, the opposite is true. Radical feminists have been in control for decades and are proving to be worse oppressors than most men could ever be. Women who go against the official line are made out to be traitors and victims of manipulative men, and men who fight back are cruelly punished.
Technology: Cybertech has allowed the population to improve beyond mortal limits. Technology has entered every aspect of life, from dating to diet planning. Ubiquitous advertisements, overlays and alerts overload the population's ability to perceive, while the opportunities to spend their hard-earned credits - thanks to technology - are becoming more and more plentiful and accessible.
Government: Laws are not made by governments, they are made by corporations and interest groups. These laws are often oppressive and anti-male-focussed. There is resistance, however, and this resistance is pushed down with violence, whenever possible.
